Description The Traditional Knowledge Keeper (Elder or Other Title to Be Agreed Upon) at Ontario Shores is an Independent Contractor and will be responsible for providing Spiritual Support to Inpatients at Ontario Shores.
Key Duties And Responsibilities Provide Spiritual Support to the Inpatients at Ontario Shores including but not limited to;
- Guide Inpatients at Ontario Shores through Smudging Ceremonies other cultural and spiritual ceremonies and practices
- Provide Traditional Medicines for Smudging Ceremonies (costs to be covered by Ontario Shores)
- Share Traditional Knowledge, Songs, Dances and Drumming with inpatients
- Provide inpatients with the opportunity to create traditional items, teach them to create these items and explain the teachings behind these items (items may include medicine bags, dream catchers, jewelry, etc., costs to be approved and covered by Ontario Shores)
- Lead Smudging Ceremonies and provide Traditional Teachings
- Harvest Traditional Medicines for Smudging Ceremonies (costs to be covered by Ontario Shores)
Qualifications
- Applicants must identify as Indigenous, must be an active member of the Indigenous Community and must able to provide Traditional Teachings
- Good judgment and decision-making ability in working with sensitive and confidential material
- Proficiency and flexibility in use of computers and related software packages (Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to perform physical demands of the position and maintain agreed upon attendance schedule
Knowledge The Traditional Knowledge Keeper (Elder or Other Title to Be Agreed Upon) has a firm knowledge of Indigenous Spiritual best practices and is either an Elder or has been taught by an Elder or another Senior Member and is entrusted to pass on knowledge to others.
