About the role

We are hiring for this position out of our Toronto office. Successful candidates who apply outside of these areas will be expected to relocate and reside in a location that is within a commutable distance.

Role Overview

This role provides subject‑matter leadership in the adjudication and structuring of CMHC‑insured and conventional commercial real estate loans, including construction and term financings. The position partners closely with Sales, Underwriting, Credit Risk, Funding, and Servicing teams to guide transactions from early review through CMHC approval, internal credit approval, and funding. The role also supports business growth by training internal teams on CMHC policy and commercial real estate markets and by structuring syndication or participation loans with investor partners.

About the day-to-day

  • Adjudicate and structure CMHC‑insured and conventional commercial real estate loans at early stages, delivering high‑quality, approval‑ready transactions aligned with risk and growth objectives.
  • Lead the CMHC approval process, partnering with Sales to improve approval rates, reduce turnaround times, and ensure consistent interpretation of CMHC policy.
  • Coordinate internal credit approval and funding readiness, working with Credit Risk, Funding, and Loan Portfolio & Servicing to efficiently resolve policy exceptions and accelerate funding timelines.
  • Provide subject‑matter expertise across commercial asset classes (retail, office, industrial), enhancing underwriting quality and proactive risk management.
  • Build internal capability through training and education, improving Sales and Underwriting effectiveness in commercial real estate markets, loan products, and CMHC requirements.
  • Structure and execute syndication or participation loans with investor partners, expanding lending capacity for larger construction transactions while maintaining risk discipline.
  • Support strategic growth and portfolio performance, contributing to scalable CMHC and conventional lending while reinforcing Peoples Group’s reputation as a trusted commercial real estate lender.

About the Qualifications

  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in commercial real estate lending within a financial institution, with a strong focus on credit adjudication and deal structuring.
  • Post-secondary degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, or a related discipline.
  • Professional designation such as CPA, CFA, or equivalent financial/real estate qualification is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience working with CMHC-insured loans, including construction and term financing.
  • Proven track record of successfully structuring and advancing complex transactions from early-stage review through approval and funding.
  • Deep knowledge of commercial real estate markets, including construction and term financing structures across asset classes.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional partners (Sales, Credit Risk, Funding, Servicing) and external stakeholders (CMHC, investors, brokers)
  • Exposure to syndication or participation loan structures and working with investor partners is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience mentoring or training team members on credit, structuring, or CMHC policies is considered an asset.
  • Advanced commercial credit adjudication and structuring skills, with the ability to assess complex transactions and deliver clear, well-supported recommendations.
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks, lending policies, and risk management principles within a Canadian banking environment.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to translate complex credit and policy concepts into clear guidance and training.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (financial modeling) and PowerPoint (executive presentations).
