GCS Group is a telecom infrastructure contractor based in Red Deer, Alberta. We specialize in underground installations using horizontal directional drilling and hydrovac excavation, and we're currently looking for a Junior Hydrovac Operator to join our crew. This is a hands-on field role built for someone who is certified, ready to work, and eager to develop their skills alongside an experienced team.
What the Job Looks Like
You'll be operating a hydrovac unit in direct support of our telecom and HDD crews — daylighting utilities, exposing bore paths, and keeping the site moving safely. You won't be on your own; you'll be working under the guidance of a senior operator while building the field experience that advances your career.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Operate hydrovac equipment to expose underground utilities and assist HDD operations
- Set up and break down hydrovac units at the start and end of each shift
- Maintain water and debris levels and perform basic fluid and equipment checks
- Follow all ground disturbance requirements and site safety procedures
- Communicate clearly with the drill crew and locators on site
- Assist with general site support tasks as directed
What You Need to Bring
- All required certifications must be valid and in hand before your first day — no exceptions
- Basic mechanical awareness and comfort working with heavy equipment
- A dependable, safety-first attitude
- Physical ability to work outdoors in varying Alberta weather
- Valid driver's license (class 1 or 3)
