Role Description The Skilled Heavy Equipment Operator is a full-time, on-site role based in Hastings, ON. This role involves operating a range of heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, and related machinery to perform excavation, backfilling, grading, and land clearing tasks. Daily responsibilities include preparing job sites, safely maneuvering equipment in varying terrain, loading and moving materials, and assisting with driveway building, trenching and site services, and retaining wall preparation. The operator will conduct basic equipment inspections, report mechanical issues, and support routine maintenance to keep machines in safe working order. Collaboration with site supervisors and crew members to follow project plans, adhere to safety regulations, and meet deadlines is essential.

Qualifications

Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently, including experience with Equipment Operation and various types of Heavy Equipment. Practical skills in earthworks and site preparation, including Excavation and related tasks for grading, backfilling, and land clearing. Knowledge of basic Equipment Maintenance, including routine inspections, minor adjustments, and reporting issues promptly. Familiarity with Equipment and its specific operating and maintenance considerations is an asset. Previous experience in construction, landscaping, or civil works environments, with strong awareness of workplace safety standards. Valid driver’s license; ability to travel to and from job sites in the Hastings, ON area (experience with towing or transporting equipment is an asset). Capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions and performing physically demanding tasks, including lifting, climbing, and standing for extended periods. Strong communication skills, reliability, and ability to follow instructions and work cooperatively with a site crew.
