A four-month immersive program designed for motivated individuals who want to build foundational retail skills or enhance existing ones while experiencing life in some of Canada's most remote, vibrant and unique northern communities.

Whether you're starting out or making a meaningful career change, this internship gives you the tools, experience, and connections to thrive.

Must be able to travel, and have a passion for serving customers in northern communities in difficult-to-reach markets. Our stores are located in the Northern most regions of Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Quebec, Nunavut and Northwest Territories.

The North West Company (NWC) has Northern and NorthMart stores in locations in northern Canada, with retail opportunities for students to learn and grow with us over summer.

Role:

What we will provide:

-Full Time– You will have 4 months of Full Time Work in a northern community. -**Compensation & Benefits:**You will receive a competitive wage ($20/hr) with overtime eligibility. We will provide food and accommodation and paid transportation to the Community. -**Training and growth:**You will be Fully Trained to ensure you will succeed in your role. You will have the opportunity to learn from experienced managers and master a variety of different tasks in the store.

What we need from you:

-**Accountabilities:**Our associates are critical to the store team. They are responsible for running cash lanes, merchandising, receiving and stocking shelves. They also ensure appropriate merchandise is ordered and properly presented to maximize sales and profits. We expect them to exhibit high customer service and support to the store management team, and over time, master a number of tasks that are critical to the running of the store. -**Flexibility:**Our students enjoy the variety provided by working in different locations and being flexible on when their work schedules change. They are extremely resilient and adaptable because they experience a wide variety of cultures, store sizes and conditions, employee skill levels, community engagement levels, and competition in each of the assigned work location.

Qualifications

• Experience interacting with/serving customers in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional problem solving, multi-tasking and decision making skills with a high attention to detail;
• Proven organizational, planning, and prioritizing skills;
• Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and superior customer service skills;
• Ability to adapt and take initiative to ensure the success of store operations;
• Physically able to lift heavy product unaided for the duration of each shift;
• Must have the ability and desire to develop an in-depth understanding of NWC's customers;
• Demonstrates a personal and enthusiastic commitment to NWC's vision, mission, values and strategies; and
• Highly motivated and adventurous with an appreciation for small town life in a culturally diverse setting considered an asset.
