Employment type: Full-time, Permanent Work arrangement: Hybrid (2-3 days onsite per week) Location: Greater Toronto Area (Scarborough-area) Compensation: Competitive; commensurate with experience Professional development: CPA support available Overview A fast-growing private company in the audio-visual and live events ecosystem is hiring a Senior Accountant (CPA Candidate) to own the full-cycle accounting function and serve as a strategic finance partner to leadership. The ideal candidate thrives in entrepreneurial environments ($10M-$20M+ revenue scale), operates with autonomy, and turns financial data into actionable business insights that improve revenue, profitability, cash flow, and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Reporting
Own full-cycle accounting, including month-end and year-end close. Manage AP, AR, payroll, bank reconciliations, general ledger, and financial reporting. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports. Maintain strong internal controls and audit-ready records. Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning. Build and monitor financial and operational KPIs. Partner with leadership on pricing, margin analysis, revenue growth initiatives, and strategic decisions.
Working Capital, AR/AP, and Cash Flow
Lead invoicing, collections, and aging management; improve DSO. Manage AP and optimize vendor payment schedules. Prepare rolling cash flow forecasts and liquidity plans. Recommend strategies to strengthen cash flow and working capital.
Profitability and Business Improvement
Analyze revenue, gross margins, project profitability, and operating performance. Evaluate project, customer, and departmental results to identify opportunities. Deliver recommendations that drive revenue growth, margin expansion, cost control, and process efficiency. Continuously improve reporting, systems, and internal processes. Support strategic planning and growth initiatives.
Tax, Grants, and Compliance
Research and leverage grants, tax credits, wage subsidies, and government funding programs (e.g., SR&ED where applicable). Prepare applications and manage reporting requirements. Stay current on Canadian tax legislation and incentive programs.
Year-End and Regulatory
Lead year-end preparation, working papers, reconciliations, and audit support. Serve as primary contact with external accountants/auditors. Manage CRA correspondence, HST filings, payroll remittances, and regulatory compliance.
Leadership and Stakeholder Management
Operate with an ownership mindset and minimal supervision. Build strong relationships with internal leaders, clients, vendors, and external partners. Represent the company professionally at industry events as needed.
Qualifications Required
Minimum 3 years of progressive full-cycle accounting experience. CPA Candidate (or actively pursuing CPA). Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or Business. Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards. Hands-on experience with AR, AP, payroll, month-end, year-end, financial reporting, and cash flow. Demonstrated financial and operational analysis skills with business impact. Advanced Excel and proficiency with accounting/ERP systems. Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
Preferred
Experience in a private company at approximately $10M-$20M+ in annual revenue. Exposure to entertainment, live events, production, media, AV, or technology integration (or adjacent project-based industries). Direct experience with external accountants/auditors, CRA, and tax advisors. Experience identifying and managing grants, SR&ED, tax credits, wage subsidies, and other funding programs. Background in entrepreneurial or founder-led environments. Track record of measurable outcomes (e.g., revenue growth, margin improvement, cost savings, cash flow improvements, faster close timelines, KPI development, successful grant/tax credit initiatives).
