The Opportunity
Our Canada Gas Projects group is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Construction Services West team, based in North Bay, Ontario. This position supports pipeline construction activity, primarily operating excavators, dozers, loaders, pipe layers, boom trucks, and transport trucks & trailers associated with pipeline maintenance. Activities are often performed near high-pressure pipelines and other energized facilities.
What You’ll Do
- Operate equipment near and around above and below ground facilities.
- Perform routine daily pre-use inspections to ensure safe operability of all equipment.
- Conduct minor maintenance activities such as equipment lubrication to ensure equipment is maintained and clean.
- Assist the team with pre-job planning of all ground disturbances to ensure safety and compliance of excavations.
- Assume the role of excavation coordinator as it pertains to TC Energy operating procedures.
- Strictly adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations, and internal operating procedures.
- Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries promptly to the supervisor for corrective action and reporting.
- Report equipment or vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to equipment immediately upon observation.
- Ship, receive, load, and unload construction materials and equipment for projects.
- Support the team in other general pipeline maintenance activities as required.
- Maintain a high degree of respect for safe work habits.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency (GED).
- 2 years’ experience operating equipment (excavator, dozer, boom truck, pipe layers, loaders, forklift, etc.).
- Valid Class G driver’s license.
- Proven experience safely and effectively operating hand-powered tools such as drills and grinders.
- Ability to read and interpret pipeline drawings, one call clearances, and project-specific drawings.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years of pipeline construction industry experience, including hands-on “hotline” excavation experience.
- Valid AZ driver’s license
- Working knowledge of high-volume and high-pressure pumps used in pipeline hydrostatic testing activities and high-volume/high-pressure air compressors.
- Valid 339C Mobile Crane Hoisting certification.
- Computer proficiency (Windows, Word, email).
This position requires candidates to:
- Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
- Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
- Travel often (95%) to support construction activities in other company locations which will require overnight stays away from home and may be for long duration
- Work a modified work schedule (9 days on/5 days off)
- Be subject to overtime, extended work hours and work weeks, as needed.
