About the role
Chief Executive Officer
Winnipeg, Manitoba
On behalf of our client, Hockey Manitoba, we are recruiting for a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organization into a new era of growth and transformation. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the CEO will provide visionary leadership, guide strategic direction while instilling a culture of accountability, professionalism, and inclusivity. This is a pivotal moment for Hockey Manitoba as it transitions to a new governance model and repositions hockey across the province as a sport that is accessible and welcoming to all. The CEO will oversee financial sustainability, diversify revenue through sponsorships and partnerships, strengthen stakeholder relationships provincially and nationally, and lead a staff team with clarity and discipline. The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader with proven experience in organizational transformation, financial stewardship, and people leadership—capable of balancing big-picture vision with operational execution while inspiring confidence and trust across the hockey community.
As the Chief Executive Officer, you are responsible for:
Strategic Leadership & Transformation
- Develop and execute a long-term strategy that aligns with Hockey Manitoba’s mission, values, and new governance model.
- Lead the organization through a cultural reset, instilling accountability, professionalism, inclusivity, and transparency at every level.
- Reposition hockey in Manitoba as a sport that is accessible and welcoming to all participants — from grassroots and recreational players to high-performance athletes.
- Partner with the Board of Directors and committees to ensure strategic clarity, effective governance, and alignment across the organization.
- Establish clear organizational KPIs and accountability frameworks, including CEO performance measures.
Financial Stewardship & Sustainability
- Oversee financial planning and resource management for a budget of $3–4M.
- Strengthen financial oversight, ensuring clarity and transparency in budgeting, investment management, and reporting.
- Diversify revenue streams through sponsorship, fundraising, partnerships, and government relations.
- Explore charitable status and other opportunities to expand funding capacity.
- Organizational Leadership & People Management
- Inspire, mentor, and empower a team of full-time staff, fostering collaboration and accountability.
- Lead HR renewal, including updating the employee handbook, enforcing consistent workplace policies, and resetting culture to remove favoritism and ensure fairness.
- Establish clear performance expectations and support professional development across the staff team.
- Restructure staff functions and responsibilities as needed to align with organizational strategy.
Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy
- Represent Hockey Manitoba with credibility and professionalism in provincial, national, and community forums.
- Strengthen relationships with Sport Manitoba, Hockey Canada, government bodies, sponsors, Indigenous communities, and member associations.
- Advocate for policies and resources that expand participation, enhance safety, and support long-term hockey development.
- Rebuild the organization’s reputation by promoting inclusivity, accessibility, and a positive image for sport.
You and Your Experience:
- Proven leadership experience in a nonprofit, sport, or related organization (CEO, Executive Director, or senior executive).
- Strong track record in strategic planning, organizational transformation, and culture change.
- Financial acumen and experience overseeing budgets, sustainability planning, and revenue growth.
- Skilled in governance, process discipline, and organizational accountability.
- Strong people leadership and HR management experience.
- Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and advocacy skills.
