Human Resources Business Partner
About the role
Altis Recruitment is grateful to partner with an organization within the Broader Public Sector to support the recruitment of an Human Resources Business Partner for a 3 month contract. The opportunity reports to the Manager of Human Resources and will work alongside a team of 5 HRBPs, each managing their own portfolio. The Human Resources Business Partner will play a key role in providing both strategic and hands-on HR support to a designated portfolio within a collaborative and purpose-driven organization. Working closely with senior leaders, management teams, and employees, this role delivers practical solutions and expert guidance across a range of human resources functions. The ideal candidate is a trusted advisor who can navigate complex employee relations matters, apply sound judgment, and build strong partnerships that support a healthy and engaged workplace.
The position will work 37.5 hours a week from 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday. The team works in a hybrid structure working 50% in-office out of their West Vancouver location.

Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on a range of HR matters, including collective agreements, policies, and employee relations.
- Manage workplace investigations, employee complaints, and conflict resolution processes.
- Advise on the interpretation and application of collective agreements, employment policies, and relevant legislation.
- Provide coaching to managers on performance management, conflict resolution, and respectful workplace practices.
- Oversee attendance management, return-to-work, and disability accommodation processes in collaboration with internal partners.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding activities as required within assigned client groups.
- Partner with leaders to identify training, development, and engagement opportunities aligned with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with HR colleagues across various functions, including labour relations, compensation, and health and safety, to ensure coordinated service delivery.
- Develop action plans that balance organizational requirements, employee needs, and compliance with applicable policies and collective agreements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive HR experience, including advisory or business partner responsibilities in both unionized and non-unionized settings.
- Strong understanding of collective agreements, policy interpretation, and employment-related legislation.
- Proven ability to manage complex and sensitive employee relations matters with discretion and sound judgment.
- Experience in coaching leaders through performance, attendance, and conflict-related situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to balance strategic perspective with day-to-day operational requirements.
- CPHR designation or working toward certification is considered an asset.
- Experience working alongside First Nations, Inuit, or Métis communities, or in support of businesses, organizations or initiatives that are led by Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Inuit or Métis) is considered a strong asset.
