POSITION: Regional Account Manager, Chemicals

LOCATION: Greater Toronto Area

MacDonald Search Group is a national permanent placement recruiting firm and we recruit on behalf of hiring companies.

Our client is a global leader in specialty chemicals and they are on the hunt for a Senior Key Account Manager to manage their pulp & paper customer segment in the GTA.

You will need to be a technical advisor and relationship manage and act as a technical solutions consultant. You won’t just sell chemicals – this role will blend sales, relationship management, and technical expertise to help pulp and paper mills improve production, reduce costs, and operate more sustainably.

CAREER PROGRESSION! This is an exciting opportunity with built in growth progression as this person will be groomed to take over a regional sales management position and acquire a team (including sales, technicians and engineers) within year 1.

MUST HAVE:

Previous sales/account management experience with a distributor selling into either pulp & paper or water treatment; or, experience on the manufacturing side within same verticals.

Responsibilities:

Business Development & Account Management

  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with decision-makers at pulp and paper mills (operations managers, engineers, procurement)
  • Identify opportunities to expand company’s footprint with new products or services.

Solution Selling

  • Sell specialty chemicals, additives, and process solutions that improve paper strength, quality, and machine efficiency.
  • Tailor solutions to mill-specific challenges like fiber efficiency, water treatment, deposit control, or improving runnability.

Technical & On-Site Support

  • Work closely with mill engineers and operators to troubleshoot production issues.
  • Demonstrate ROI by showing how products can reduce downtime, improve yields, or enhance paper properties.
  • Conduct product trials on-site.

Sustainability & Value Creation

  • Position products as enablers of sustainability goals (e.g., reduced water/energy consumption, improved recyclability of paper products).
  • Help clients meet environmental regulations and efficiency targets.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Collaborate with application engineers, R&D, and customer service teams to ensure successful implementation.
  • Track sales performance, prepare proposals, and deliver value reports to customers.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years’ experience in pulp & paper or water treatment industries
  • Proven track record solving complex technical challenges
  • Experience managing large or complex projects
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work independently and lead/coach others
  • Skilled at engaging all levels of an organization to drive results
  • Excellent communication and consultative sales skills
  • Customer-focused with a proactive, results-driven mindset
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
