Job Summary

The Electronics Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, calibration, and repair of electronic monitoring and gas detection equipment in both shop and field environments. This role ensures all equipment is properly serviced, tested, and deployment-ready while supporting field operations through installations, troubleshooting, and on-site technical support.

The position requires a balance of shop-based technical work and regular field/site visits to support operations, maintain strong client relationships, and provide hands-on service and expertise to customers. The Electronics Technician also assists with asset tracking, inventory management, and technical support to ensure efficient and reliable service delivery.

Reports to: Station Manager

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic equipment including:
    • Personal and portable monitors
    • Quad head and Rig Rat/OTIS/WASP monitors
    • Wireless and area detection systems
    • Environmental monitoring units
  • Prepare, test, and stage equipment for field deployment and rentals
  • Receive, inspect, decontaminate, and service returned equipment
  • Track, dispatch, and manage monitoring assets for field projects and rental operations
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation for all equipment
  • Support internal and external customers with technical inquiries, product orientation, and equipment usage
  • Assist in creating sales quotes and work orders (e.g., SPIRA system) for rentals and equipment sales
  • Maintain shop cleanliness, organization, and parts inventory
  • Perform electronic board-level repairs where required
  • Collaborate with Station Operations team to ensure field ready equipment
  • Provide occasional field support, including installation and troubleshooting of monitoring systems when required
  • Assist in training and mentoring field personnel on proper equipment use and maintenance
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or management

Required Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in calibration, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment
  • Previous experience with gas detection systems, preferably in the oil and gas industry
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a shop environment
  • Mechanically and technically inclined with strong troubleshooting ability
  • Physically capable of:
    • Lifting up to 50 lbs
    • Pushing/pulling tools or equipment
    • Standing and walking for extended periods
    • Bending, kneeling, and crouching
    • Occasional driving and field support work

Required Certifications & Training

  • Electronics Technologist Diploma (or equivalent)
  • H2S Alive
  • Standard First Aid / CPR
  • Valid unrestricted driver’s license (appropriate class)
  • HSE Driving Program (will provide)
  • HSE Orientation (will provide)
  • HSE Respiratory Protection (will provide)
  • HSE Gas Detection (will provide)
  • Construction Safety Training System (CSTS)
  • Competency in performing equipment maintenance at the field level

Additional certifications may be required to meet specific client or project requirements.
