The Opportunity
The City of St. Albert is recruiting an individual to join our Information Technology Services department as an IT Service Desk Technician.
Reporting to the IT Service Desk Coordinator, this position will be responsible for supporting the Service Desk Team by providing technical support to all City employees using personal computers and other electronic devices. This position interacts with clients to diagnose and solve problems with IT hardware, software, and peripheral devices. Fundamental to the effective delivery of this service is a solid understanding of the variety of corporate applications and computer hardware used by the City.
Responsibilities
- Responding to client incidents and requests by telephone, email, in-person, and other means.
- Logging and categorising all incidents and requests within the IT Service Management (ITSM) tool and notifying clients of incident, request status, and closure.
- Installing, maintaining, and removing hardware, software, and peripheral equipment and managing related IT asset data.
- Performing repairs to computer equipment, liaising with contractors to perform repairs, maintenance, or warranty.
- Performing testing, release, and deployment of new technology, including the provision of training to clients.
Qualifications

2-year post-secondary diploma or certificate in a relevant discipline.

3 years of technical support experience in a Windows environment, in a medium- to large-sized organization.

Ability to lift and carry up to 20kg for short distances.

Excellent customer service and engagement skills.

Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Knowledge of wired and wireless network technologies and protocols, VoIP, mobile device management and smart phone technologies.

Extensive skill with Windows, Active Directory and Microsoft Office suite.
Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
Hours of Work
- We offer a compressed bi-weekly work schedule of 72 hours, Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00, with a biweekly regular day off (RDO).
- Benefit from flexible work hours by adjusting your start and end times by 30 or 60 minutes around our core hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Please note that this position is required to work extended hours from time to time and outside standard business hours.
Compensation
- The salary ranges from $66,540 – $81,894 per annum, including a comprehensive benefits package.
- Candidates not meeting the full qualifications may be considered for a development opportunity at a lower classification and salary.
