Purpose of your Position - Non Union
Classification Summary - Union
A Pipelayer I installs, fits, repairs, and maintains water, sanitary, sewer, and storm drainage pipe systems.
Duties - Union
-
Installs or repairs pipe systems and associated structures according to technical design specifications. Responds to emergency callouts when required to repair pipe bursts, etc.
-
Interprets blueprints, construction drawings, maps, plans, survey cut sheets and grade stakes; uses instruments such as lasers and transit levels to verify proper grades and alignment of trenches/excavations.

Hand-shovels where required to uncover existing buried utilities.
-
Operates and maintains equipment related to the work including rollers, tampers, trucks and a variety of hand and power tools.

Selects, prepares, aligns, connects and seals pipe joints applying knowledge of proper techniques and materials.

Ensures work is performed in accordance with quality standards and safe work practice and regulations.

Manual labour and working in confined spaces and deep trenches are required.
