About Chevrah Kadisha

51-200

We are the oldest Jewish organisation in Johannesburg and the largest Jewish welfare organisation on the African continent. Established in 1888, during Johannesburg's pioneer gold rush years, we have been taking care of the welfare and burial needs of the community ever since.

At the request of community leaders, over the past decade the Chevrah Kadisha has consolidated multiple welfare organisations under its umbrella. This has enabled economies of scale, a professional management infrastructure and a holistic approach to meeting the community’s needs. All support services are managed centrally including fundraising, finance, and operations. This infrastructure enables the General Manager of each of the organisations to focus on caring for the needs of their residents.

Today the Chevrah Kadisha comprises: 4 major Organisations: Sandringam Gardens, home for aged people; Our Parents Home, for aged people; Arcadia Children’s Home & Selwyn Segal, home for physically and intellectually disabled. 9 core services: Financial Assistance; Health Care; Residential; Protected Employment; Education Support; Social; Burial; Bridal & Emergency

Your contributions will make a difference and help us continue our vital work by offering the Chev’s many services to those who need them most, in any situation of hardship in which they may find themselves.
