As a Senior Software Developer within our Toronto Development Team, you will work researching, designing, and developing our suite of software applications. You will leverage your creative problem-solving and technological skills to play an integral part in advancing our user experiences, future application architecture, coding standards, and best practices.

You will also, have the opportunity, to mentor and guide more junior members of the team, sharing your experience and knowledge. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is interested in growing their career.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Contribute to technical decisions affecting the development of software products
• Develop and maintain software for various projects in a timely manner, applying modern commercial computer programming skills
• Contribute as a member of an Agile team, utilizing Agile development processes to ensure efficiency while maintaining product suitability and quality
• Daily debugging, code maintenance, code review, testing for robustness and technically challenging problem solving
• Escalated support may require your assistance with analysis, interpretation and resolution of customer concerns
• Create technical documentation as required
• Mentor and support more junior team members

T o be successful in this role, you need:

• University degree in Computer Science and/or compelling and extensive experience developing real-world applications
• Minimum 7 years demonstrated full-stack web-based programming experience
• Extensive experience with front-end (React), back-end (Python, Node.js, etc.), databases (MongoDB, MySQL, etc.), web servers (Nginx, web sockets, etc.), build tools (Vite, CI/CD, etc.), security (OAuth, JWT, CSP, etc.)
• Excellent knowledge of current web-design trends and techniques
• Experience with Git, GitHub, GitHub Actions
• Confident oral and written communication skills in English
• Experience performing code reviews and mentoring junior developers
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to develop and build sustainable working relationships
• Ability to manage your own workload effectively and to work effectively alongside team members
• Balanced and informed approach to problem-solving
• Stay current with new technology and industry trends.

Nice to have skills:

• Experience with computer graphics, WebGL an asset
• Experience in web assembly
• Cloud platform experience (GCP, AWS, Azure)
• Experience with Atlassian JIRA, Confluence an asset
• Experience in Docker, Kubernetes as asset
• Geoscience knowledge, with an emphasis on software applications an asset
• Interest in mathematics an asset
