What can you expect from this position? Reporting to the Associate Director, Ground Operations, this position ensures airport integrity and the consistent flow of aircraft on the airfield. To accomplish this, this role proactively monitors airside and groundside to maintain situational awareness and ensures any remedial action taken preserves the operational efficiency of the airport. Coordinate, integrate and lead a cross-functional team in the successful management of passenger and airline flow by both coordinating “Day of” operations as well as anticipating, and planning mitigation for any potential interruptions to service that may result from external and/or future events/circumstances.

As Manager, Airside Ground Operations, you will:

  • Serve as the Single Point of Contact for all airside operations, ensuring situational awareness and coordination across bussing, maintenance, safety, and electrical teams.
  • Lead and mentor “Day of” teams to manage safe, secure operations, resolve complex issues, and implement IRROP procedures for efficient recovery.
  • Oversee planned and demand-driven airside activities to optimize the flow of aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo.
  • Ensure compliance with GTAA policies and regulatory requirements from Nav Canada, Transport Canada, and other governing bodies.
  • Monitor weather conditions and proactively adjust operations to maintain airside flow and capacity, including snow, wind, and lightning events.
  • Recommend and support deployment of snow removal and airfield teams during seasonal weather disruptions.
  • Direct resource allocation and team coordination during irregular operations to maintain safety and service continuity.
  • Analyze operational issues, set priorities, and identify improvements to SOPs, policies, and protocols for enhanced efficiency.
  • Communicate daily airside event plans to the IOCC and lead briefings, hot washes, and operational debriefs with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Responsible for being a customer centric Leader with respect to the mission, vision, values and beliefs.

This is the role for you, if you have:

  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in an airport environment with demonstrated experience in serving a large and complex customer base.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a leadership role including People Management, preferably in a matrix-based organization with multiple operations.
  • Strong understanding of airline, aircraft, and ground handling procedures as they relate to Aviation Services.
  • An ability to anticipate and support the “Day of” operational team as required ensuring TPIA has a successful day.
  • Strong relationship management skills with internal and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, collaborate and negotiate cross functionally in a unionized environment, as well as with external partners to achieve results.
  • Solid business insights and improvement attitude to solution immediate issues and to identify trends, provide recommendations, plans and implement corrective actions.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively reach a broad audience of business partners and guests.
  • Strong decision-making skills and demonstrates a sense of urgency to deliver operational excellence.
  • Ability to successfully lead under pressure and respond to critical and or changing priorities throughout the day.
  • Valid "G" Ontario Drivers License
  • Ability to obtain a D/A AVOP license within thirty (30) days of appointment to the position and a D AVOP within six (6) months of appointment to the position.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Aviation Management or Business Management and/or equivalent education and work experience.
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance.
