About the Organization:
The MacEachen Institute for Public Policy and Governance at Dalhousie University is a nationally focused, non-partisan, interdisciplinary institute designed to support the development of progressive public policy and to encourage greater citizen engagement.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Scholarly Director, the Project Coordinator will play a key role in advancing the institute’s research and institutional goals by securing external funding, managing multi-year research projects, and directing the institute’s finances, operations, and human resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the grant application process, including seeking out, researching, and pursuing funding for scholarly grants and research. Work to build relevant partnerships.
- Ensure completed grant applications, contracts, and contribution agreements are budgeted, prepared, reviewed, authorized and implemented in accordance with Dalhousie and designated-agency requirements.
- Support the Research Grants Officer in the post-award process to ensure funder requirements are met. Support the Scholarly Director to make sure the commitments of agreements are met and monitored.
- Manage a variety of research projects (e.g. grants, contracts, contribution agreements, partnerships, MOU) with numerous sponsors, co-investigators, and partners, through all stages from initiation to closing.
- Develop work-breakdown structures, logic diagrams, and project schedules to deliver project outputs on time, managing project budget, financial transactions, and cash flow.
- Working with the Scholarly Director, manage the budget, annual financial reports, and fiscal planning. Manage staff including guidance, scheduling, and performance oversight. Oversee office and facility operations
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in related field plus three to five years related work experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Project management experience including experience writing funding proposals.
- Demonstrated excellent organizational, analytical, and research skills as well as innovative and/or entrepreneurial vision.
- Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated computer skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) and virtual meeting software (Microsoft Teams, Zoom).
Assets
- Relevant experience in an academic, research, and/or not-for-profit environment.
- Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary grant proposals (e.g. SSHRC).
- Experience developing, coordinating, and planning meetings and events.
