About Us
The Department offers instruction in Mathematics at all levels. See the Undergraduate Program and Graduate Program pages for comprehensive information. The Department of Mathematics has established research groups in several areas of contemporary mathematics, including algebra, geometry, topology, analysis, and noncommutative geometry. These research groups and their activities are described in more detail on the Department's Research page.
Responsibilities
Requirements:
- Department of Mathematics student (graduate or undergraduate students)
- Legally eligible to work full-time for 8 weeks
- Previous experiences will be considered as an asset
The candidate will be asked for the following items and if they are hired, the expenses for both will be reimbursed:
- Police check for vulnerable sectors
- First Aid and CPR training
Responsibilities: The Program Assistant coordinators assist the camp coordinator in organizing and developing camp material, creating lesson plans for talks, and recruiting volunteers and speakers. Also, the candidates will have to coordinate with the various parties involved in running the camp, including the administrative staff, speakers, and caterers.
- Organizing and Developing Camp Material:
- Collaborate with the camp coordinator to curate and organize camp material, including schedule, handout, welcome packages for campers and their parents.
- Work closely with the camp coordinator to develop comprehensive and engaging lesson plan and presentation, review the existing ones and update them.
- Ensure that all material and plan align with the camp's objectives and are suitable for the target audience.
- Recruiting Volunteers:
- Develop a recruitment strategy, considering specific needs of the camp, for volunteers and attract potential volunteers from the community.
- Help the team and the coordinator to increase the registration of participants in the camp and help parents to locate the right camps for their kids.
- Coordinating Volunteers and Speakers:
- Conduct orientation sessions and training for volunteers to ensure they are well-prepared for their roles.
- Establish effective communication channels between volunteers and speakers.
- Facilitate pre-event meetings to ensure that speakers are well-informed about the camp's goals and schedule.
- Address any concerns or questions from both volunteers and speakers promptly.
- Collaborating with Administrative Staff:
- Work closely with administrative staff to manage logistical aspects of the camp, such as venue arrangements, equipment setup, and registration processes.
- Act as a point of contact for speakers, providing them with necessary information and addressing their requirements.
- Coordinate with catering services to plan meals and refreshments, considering dietary restrictions and preferences.
- Problem-Solving and Adaptability:
- Be prepared to address unforeseen challenges or changes in plans during the camp.
- Implement quick and effective solutions to ensure the smooth flow of activities.
- Post-Event Evaluation:
- Collaborate with the camp coordinator to conduct a post-event evaluation.
- Gather feedback from participants, volunteers, and speakers to identify areas for improvement and success stories.
- Help the Camp Coordinator to prepare the camp report.
