About the role
BCIT’sDigital Arts, Media and Designdepartment within theSchool of Business + Mediaoffers a range of programs in the areas of Animation and Gaming, Web and Mobile, and Communication and Graphics. We are currently seeking atemporary, part-time (0.2FTE) Instructorto teach full-time students in theDiploma in 3D Modeling, Art and Animation, from May to August 2026.
Duties & Responsibilities
The instructor assignment is for:
-MDAA****4642 3D Animation 4 (20%)
- Students will be introduced to the essentials of acting and characteristics to create 3D character animations. Students will examine the acting techniques for body language, facial animation, lip-sync, eye direction, emotions and expressions for animating 3D characters. Proper framing and camera movements will be explored. Students will practice the art of body mechanics, poses, actions and performance. Under the instructor’s supervision, students will shoot reference videos and pictures from different poses and performances, and then create a sequence.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS**:**
- Diploma or Degree in 3D Animation, Game Art, Visual Effects, Computer Graphics, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional industry experience.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in character animation, gameplay animation, or performance animation within the film, animation, or game development industry.
- Demonstrated expertise in advanced character animation using Autodesk Maya, including blocking, refinement, and final polish workflows.
- Strong understanding of performance animation techniques, including acting, body language, facial animation, lip sync, and emotional expression.
- Experience creating dialogue-driven character performances, including facial acting, eye direction, and expressive character animation.
- Demonstrated experience animating complex body mechanics, including action sequences and dynamic character movement.
- Experience animating quadruped characters, including walk and run cycles.
- Strong understanding of shot planning and staging, including camera framing, composition, and pacing for character-driven animation.
- Experience working with reference-based animation workflows, including filming and analyzing live reference footage for animation.
- Ability to guide students through animation blocking, iteration, and final polish suitable for professional demo reels.
- Demonstrated ability to provide detailed animation critique and performance direction to help students refine acting choices and storytelling through animation.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support students from a range of skill levels.
Desired Qualifications:

Previous post-secondary teaching or mentoring experience.

Demonstrated industry success with appropriate and current experience and skills in the entire 3D pipeline including: 3D Modeling, Animating, Rigging, Texturing, Lighting, and Rendering.

Experience in Redshift, Arnold, and Unreal Engine.

$65,045 - $113,545 per annum
Additional Salary Information
