The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA - 650 Main Street, Winnipeg MB R3B 1E2) and The University of Manitoba, Department of Ophthalmology (business addresses noted below), are inviting applications for full-time, permanent Ophthalmologists to fill our labour shortage in Manitoba. Main job duties include diagnose and treatment of diseases, prescribing medications and treatment, ordering lab tests and x-rays and other diagnostic procedures, consulting with other physicians as required, and medical research. Job duties are required in English.

The University of Manitoba Department of Ophthalmology has a long-standing history of providing outstanding care for our patients, conducting collaborative research, and educating our next ophthalmologists. The department currently supports 7 residents in the Ophthalmology training program, as well as fellowships in Retina. The department has multiple providers conducting clinical research.

The Department currently has faculty positions academically oriented in

  • Comprehensive Ophthalmologist
  • Oculoplastic/Cataract Surgeon
  • Glaucoma/Cataract Surgeon
  • Surgical Cornea Ophthalmologist
  • Surgical Retina Specialist

Appointment at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or full Professor is available and commensurate with experience.

Qualifications The successful candidate must hold a Doctor of Medicine Degree with specialization in Ophthalmology. The successful candidate must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.

Our faculty group is looking for a candidate with experience and interest in teaching residents and medical students in the clinic as well as the operating room. Those with experience in Competence by Design (CBD) will be given preference. Along with a strong clinical practice, the candidate will have clinical research and quality improvement opportunities. Expectations include high clinical and ethical standards. Excellent surgical and diagnostic skills are required.

Compensation Compensation is derived from fee-for-service income ($350,000.00/annual +). Specialty physicians may be eligible for a recruitment incentive. Please contact physicianrecruitment@sharedhealthmb.ca for further information.
