We are searching for an Engineering Manager to join the team at Claystone. This is a hybrid role requiring time in Edmonton and in Ryley, AB as needed.

Position Summary
Claystone Waste Ltd. (CWL) is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead its engineering team and deliver capital projects, long-term infrastructure planning, and maintenance programs that support safe, efficient, and sustainable waste management operations.
CWL operates a Class 2 waste-disposal landfill facility, Class 1 compost facility, residential and commercial transfer stations, administration and maintenance buildings, waste hauling and collection vehicles, water treatment equipment, and off-site offices.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the annual and long-term capital program, from project concept and budget development to planning, design/specifications, procurement, execution, and close-out.
- Develop and maintain engineering and maintenance standards for CWL facilities and equipment in collaboration with operations.
- Prepare, issue, and coordinate maintenance contracts to ensure safe, efficient operation of CWL systems and assets.
- Implement and manage Claystone’s Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) on internal and third-party projects; maintain Claystone’s Permit to Practice with APEGA and serve as the Responsible Member.
- Select and manage engineering, construction, and environmental consultants for capital and maintenance programs.
- Ensure project management protocols and quality standards are applied and documented on all capital projects.
- Support operations and business development with opportunity assessment, facility design, financial analysis, and new business initiatives.
- Oversee environmental and regulatory permit acquisition in coordination with management and consultants.
- Direct staff assignments, monitor project progress, and ensure completion within scope, time, and budget.
- Maintain comprehensive project records from concept to close-out.
- Mentor, train, and develop engineering and maintenance staff; conduct annual performance planning and reviews.
- Instill a culture of quality assurance, health, safety, and environmental compliance across all assigned operations.
- Represent Claystone professionally with Board members, stakeholders, customers, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Serve as Claystone’s Responsible Member under the Alberta Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act, implementing and maintaining professional engineering practice standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil/Environmental preferred) or equivalent.
- Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA within 30 days of hire.
- Proficiency in CAD drafting, modeling software, and data-driven reporting.
- Strong experience with MS Office, databases, and project management/design software (MS Project, Visio, AutoCAD).
- Proven ability to create and execute project management plans, delivering on time and within budget.
- Skilled at preparing clear, concise reports and presentations on project status.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and coaching of engineering and technical staff.
- Familiarity with QA/QC concepts, standardized measurement methods, and root-cause analysis.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills with professionalism and diplomacy.
- Strong time-management and organizational skills; able to prioritize, multitask, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Committed to personal development, continuous improvement, and exceptional customer service.
Education and Experience
Formal Education: Undergraduate degree required: Project Management; Registered as P. Eng. with APEGA (within 30 days of hire)
