Grande Yellowhead Public School division is seeking a Complexity and Intervention Teacher to join our team in Hinton, AB. Position: Interim, Complexity and Intervention Teacher
Location: Start Date: Duties to commence immediately until June 30, 2027
Hours of Work: 1.0 FTE, Monday to Friday

Crescent Valley School is located in Hinton, Alberta which resides in the Grande Yellowhead Public School Division. An elementary school providing excellent education to approximately 255 students, grades JK-7.
Summary Providing leadership in GYPSD, the Complexity and Intervention Teacher is knowledgeable about the Alberta Programs of Study, skilled in teacher collaboration and sharing promising practices, with specific expertise in Inclusive learning and practices to support student learning.
The Complexity and Intervention Teacher supports students with identified learning Needs, Social, Emotional and Behavioural needs, English Language Learners and students with medically complex needs to enhance academic growth and achievement, as well as build self regulation capacity. The Complexity and Intervention Teacher continues to gain knowledge about emerging trends, inclusive practices and research-based instructional practices to evolve to meet the changing needs of Students.
The successful candidate will report to the Director of Inclusion and the school Principal.
Role And Responsibilities The successful candidate will be a collaborative person with proficiency in the use of inclusive practices to support Complex student needs and have an understanding of assessment for learning. The responsibilities include:
- Providing both differentiated and modified instruction, based on mandated curriculum, to promote high quality student-centered teaching and learning to meet a variety of student needs in line with Individual Student Goals and Individual Program Plan requirements;
- Designing and preparing lessons based on K-6 curriculum and following a variety of methodology (e.g. small group, whole group, co-teaching, 1-on-1 etc.) in teaching and instructing students to facilitate inclusive educational practices to maximize educational opportunities for all students;
- Plan for and supervise assigned Educational Assistants;
- Collect, analyze and interpret data (e.g Functional behavioural Assessment Data) to guide programming decisions for individual students, school-based interventions and division-wide best practice to meet identified needs;
- Provide feedback to school leadership, other staff and liaise with parents as needed;
- Promote research based inclusive strategies and assistive technologies to support the highest level of learning for all students;
- Share knowledge about emerging trends, inclusive practices and research-based instructional practices;
- Contribute to achieving the outcomes established for the Inclusion Department and Learning Services Department and the wider Division;
- Support and /or lead Professional Development related to Classroom Complexity and be a resource in the assigned school as needed; have a background knowledge in working with non-verbal Autistic Spectrum Disorder students and supporting with AAC devices
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Inclusion or school Principal.
Qualifications The Temporary Complexity and Intervention Teacher must:
- possess (or be eligible for) a valid Alberta teaching; certificate, have a minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience;
- Have (or be willing to obtain) Level B assessment credential/s
- Possess (or be working toward) a Master’s Degree in a related field;
- A valid Alberta driver’s license is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Evidence Based Strategies e.g. Orton Gillingham, UFLI, Science of Reading, Self Regulation, knowledge of EAL (e.g. SCIOP and/or Benchmark 2.0 assessment) and Trauma Informed Practices.
The Division The Grande Yellowhead Public School Division (GYPSD) stretches from Jasper National Park, east to Evansburg, south of Cadomin, and northwest to Grande Cache. The jurisdiction includes 17 schools, 5 Learning Connection Centres, approximately 5000 students and 600 staff. The Division is governed by seven elected Trustees.
