Senior Process Engineer

Summary

The Senior Process Engineer leads end‑to‑end process engineering deliverables for gas processing and modular facilities, covering simulation, equipment sizing, pressure protection, hydraulics, and piping/BOM integration. This role owns PFD and P&ID development, ensures alignment with applicable codes and specifications, and works closely with multi‑discipline teams to deliver safe, operable, and cost‑effective designs. The position also provides technical leadership, mentorship, and clear communication across projects.

With a foundation of integrity, the candidate would use commitment and creativity to drive our organization forward. This position is based out of the Enerflex South East Calgary office at 4700 47th St SE, Calgary.

Principle Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop and validate process simulations for key process units and operating modes
  • Generate and maintain PFDs and P&IDs throughout project phases
  • Perform sizing, rating, and performance evaluations for vessels, heat exchangers, coolers, pumps, compressors, and other major equipment
  • Interpret and apply project specifications and applicable codes while developing and updating equipment datasheets and design basis documentation.
  • Perform pressure protection and control valve sizing for PSV, BDV, CV, regulators, PVRVs, and EPRVs in accordance with applicable standards and project requirements.
  • Execute flare and disposal system hydraulic analysis, including tail pipes, sub‑headers, and main headers, to verify relief capacity across all scenarios.
  • Define blowdown segmentation, alarm limits, and safeguarding requirements; contribute to Shutdown Keys (SDK), control narratives, and safety philosophies.
  • Conduct process and utility line sizing using validated simulation data, including pressure‑drop analysis and overall package or plant hydraulics.
  • Design drain and purge systems that support safe operation, isolation, and maintenance, and update associated requirements on P&IDs.
  • Provide technical leadership by guiding junior engineers, reviewing work for quality and consistency, and leading cross‑discipline technical discussions.
  • Communicate complex process and safety concepts clearly to project teams, management, vendors, and operations personnel, both verbally and in written deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Process, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Registered as a**P.Eng.**with APEGA (or equivalent)
  • 10–15 years of experience in gas processing or modular plant design
  • Proficient in process simulation tools (Symmetry, Aspen HYSYS, Promax)
  • Strong understanding of equipment sizing and design codes
  • Hands-on experience in developing PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment datasheets
  • Solid understanding of API, ASME, CSA, and Canadian industry standards
  • Effective coordination skills with mechanical, instrumentation, and vendor teams
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with gas modular manufacturing, including support of module fabrication and packaging is an asset
