About the team + role
The Cloud Networking team’s mission is to build scalable, secure, and reliable networking infrastructure that powers communication across all Robinhood services. We enable our engineering teams to build and operate microservices seamlessly by providing foundational networking capabilities that are resilient and transparent.
As Staff Engineer, Cloud Networking, you will play a pivotal role in architecting and delivering the next generation of Robinhood’s networking stack. You'll lead initiatives around service discovery, service-to-service communication, and infrastructure scalability, with a focus on reliability, maintainability, and security. You’ll mentor other engineers, collaborate with security and platform teams, and contribute to open-source technologies that we rely on daily!

What you’ll do
- Lead and design the evolution of our service discovery and communication frameworks across our microservice architecture.
- Maintain tier-0 availability and performance standards for critical interservice communication infrastructure.
- Collaborate with security teams to enforce authentication, encryption, and policy across service communication layers.
- Guide engineering decisions and mentor junior engineers to elevate the team’s technical proficiency.
- Anticipate infrastructure growth and proactively implement scalable, efficient solutions.
What you bring
- You’ve led teams operating Kubernetes-based platforms at scale on AWS cloud infrastructure.
- You’re an expert in service meshes (e.g., Istio), DNS systems (e.g., CoreDNS, Unbound), and proxies (e.g., Envoy).
- You have deep understanding of secure communication, and have partnered with security teams on policy and encryption implementations.
- You’ve driven the adoption of scalable internal networking and service discovery standards across large organizations.
- You’re a strong communicator with a track record of high-impact technical leadership and mentoring.

Base pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected base pay range for this role is based on the location where the work will be performed.

$179,000—$210,000 CAD
