Make a difference
Reporting to the Director, Tenant Human Rights Program, the Business Planner supports and manages projects that further Toronto Community Housing’s tenant human rights initiatives as well as carrying out data tracking and reporting functions for the Legal Services Division generally. The work environment is fast-paced and collegial, and the Business Planner is expected to be solution-focused and collaborative and exercise sound judgment at all times.
This job offers the opportunity to work from home as part of a hybrid work arrangement. This arrangement will allow you to work some days at a TCHC work location and the rest of the time from home. The amount of time required to work at a TCHC work location is flexible, while considering operational and service delivery requirements.
What you’ll do
Develop and Implement Strategic Initiatives:
- Receive, analyze and make recommendations for decision in relation tenant human rights complaints and accommodation requests
- In partnership with other divisions, co-ordinate and monitor staff learning initiatives and management meetings related to policies and procedures
- Ensure initiatives are delivered in accordance with internal, shareholder, or other requirements
- Advice on improvements of performance measures and reporting as appropriate
- Develop recommendations to improve business processes
Provide support for TCHC’s tenant human rights initiatives by coordinating strategic initiatives and fulfilling reporting requirements
- Data tracking, analysis and reporting on Legal Services Division initiatives and metrics generally including GCHRC reporting
- Coordinate with various units within and outside of Legal Services in relation to tracking and reporting activities
- Record, track and analyze data on tenant human rights complaints and
- Identify emerging problems and propose solutions to management and the executive team
Plan and coordinate with other divisions to review, update, create new policies and procedures related to tenant human rights initiatives and communicate and monitor their implementation
- Project manage the development and implementation of new policies and procedures as necessary
- Plan and co-ordinate with other divisions and external stakeholders to review, update and create existing and new human rights policies and procedures Plan and co-ordinate staff and tenant education campaigns, educational materials and guides
Develop reports, papers, briefing notes and presentations for internal use and to communicate to stakeholders
- Develop reports, papers, briefing notes, and presentations for internal use and to communicate to stakeholders’ accommodation requests
- Draft reports to Board of Directors, Committees, Executive team, and others
- Draft complex correspondence, decision letters, etc.
What you’ll need
- Post-secondary education in law or other relevant field (e.g. Public Policy, Administration, Social Policy)
- 5-7 years of work experience in a legal environment in one or more of the following areas: human rights, litigation, investigations, administrative law and policy analysis or development
- Familiarity with relevant law including human rights, residential tenancies and housing subsidy administration
- Experience in conducting investigations and providing written decisions
- Proficiency with computerized business applications including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software applications
- Proven ability to analyze and interpret data, prepare reports and statements
- Proven ability to interact effectively with and engage a variety of stakeholders including: staff, tenants, business partners and community groups
- Excellent project management, conflict resolution and organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of Toronto Community Housing’s operations, policies and procedures
