As part of BMO’s North American Retail & Small Business Payments, the Partnerships team manages several existing partnerships and has the mandate to develop and grow new partnerships that are aligned with our strategic vision to provide value add benefits to our BMO credit cardholders.
The Manager – New Partnerships & Merchant engagement is accountable for the implementation and management of partnerships for BMO credit cards in the Canadian market, as well as launching new partnerships. In this role, the incumbent will: (1) work to bring new partnerships to market (2) act as thought leader on how to integrate BMO’s various partnerships into BMO’s credit card and loyalty strategy, (3) contribute to implement and integrate projects and new Partnership launches (4) Manage, grow and optimize existing Partnerships
Accountabilities:
Develop and implement new partnerships that are aligned with BMOs objectives in the credit cards business.
- Lead business case process to review, assess and optimize the economics and incremental value added by various partners.
- Provide recommendations on short- and long-term options.
- Support the tracking of expected benefits due to projects delivered by the team.
- Contribute to negotiations with the partners and the entire business development / sales cycle.
- Identify and support the launch of new distribution partnerships aligned to BMO growth objectives and as a multi-product "One Bank" solutions that drive engagement and long-term value.
Contribute to thought leadership for how to integrate BMO’s various partnerships into BMO’s credit card and loyalty strategy.

Develop and lead the execution of partnership strategies based on deep consumer insights and benchmarking assessment.

Work closely with other lines of businesses to identify existing Bank’s Partnerships and assess if there is a fit with credit cards to expand our value-add benefits.

Continually monitor the competitive environment to ensure our partnerships delivers significant value for our cardholders Identify new Distribution Partnerships through quarterly assessment and planning.
Contribute to implementation and integration projects and new partnership launches.
- Effectively manage all contractual and supplier management requirements for new partners.
- Liaise with other lines of business including other areas of the payments team and other teams within Personal & Business Banking (Acquisition, Small Business, Customer Engagement, Operations, Analytics, Marketing, Distribution).
- Manage risk related to the portfolio and ensure compliance with all laws, rules and BMO policies.
Management of existing partnerships.
- Effectively manage the day-to-day operations of all credit cards partnerships.
- Ensure that contractual and partner commitments are met.
- Deliver an annual plan for priorities and goals for each Partner annually with Growth objectives and optimization path.
- Work collaboratively with other areas of the payments business as the partnership lead for credit cards.
Qualifications:
Knowledge
- Minimum undergraduate university degree, an MBA or other post-graduate degree, or equivalent industry related experience preferred
- 3+ years credit card product management experience
- 2+ years partner relationship management experience
- Management consulting or Strategy experience preferred
- Strong track record delivering results in ambiguous and challenging situations
- P&L management experience preferred
- Data fluency is an asset
