Solution Architect
About the role
What you will do: Reporting to the VP, Architecture & Cyber Security, as a Solutions Architect you will play a key role in shaping the next generation of Cineplex’s digital guest experience. You will lead the architectural vision for the apps and websites behind iconic brands such as Cineplex, The Rec Room, and Playdium, ensuring our platforms are modern, scalable, and designed to delight millions of guests.
In this role, you will partner closely with dedicated development squads, guiding them in building and modernizing both large‑scale customer‑facing systems and the enterprise platforms that power our core operations. You will champion software architecture best practices, drive technical alignment across teams, and ensure our solutions deliver meaningful value for both our guests and the business.
This is a hybrid position (3 days in the office per week). Office location is 1303 Yonge Street, Toronto.
Responsibilities
- Design modern on‑premises and Azure cloud solutions that are built to meet high standards for performance, reliability, security, and compliance.
- Shape how Cineplex’s systems connect by designing scalable, performant integrations across cloud and on‑prem environments, enabling smoother experiences for both guests and internal teams.
- Apply modern software technologies and patterns to elevate system performance and enhance the digital experience for millions of users.
- Guide Cineplex’s evolution to next‑generation cloud platforms, ensuring new solutions work seamlessly with legacy systems while helping define the roadmap to safely retire outdated technology
- Develop internal prototypes and reference implementations for internal educational purposes and to reduce project risk and delivery times
- Work hand‑in‑hand with development squads through stand‑ups, design reviews, code reviews, and collaborative working sessions, ensuring architectural alignment, mentoring teams, and presenting solutions to the Cineplex Digital Review Board.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent
- 7+ years hands on experience architecting, developing, deploying, and monitoring mission-critical web-based software applications
- You have 5+ years of strong cloud architecture expertise, including hands‑on work with Azure (3+ years) designing and operating IaaS and PaaS solutions at scale.
- With 5+ years of full‑stack software development experience, you understand how real systems are built and can guide teams with credibility and technical depth.
- You have 3+ years of architecting and operated both cloud and on‑premises production systems and know how to design solutions that work across hybrid environments.
- You’re comfortable working with modern middleware technologies such as service buses and event hubs, and know how to build resilient, event‑driven and message‑based systems.
- You thrive in collaborative, cross‑functional agile teams and enjoy partnering closely with developers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver impactful solutions.
- You are comfortable creating clear and purposeful architecture documentation, including logical and deployment diagrams, sequence diagrams, process flows and class models. You also understand when each type of documentation is truly needed to help teams stay aligned.
- You bring strong engineering experience building enterprise applications and system integrations using Microsoft .NET and C# on the backend, along with modern front‑end technologies such as HTML5, React, TypeScript, Next.js and Angular.
- You have hands‑on experience migrating on‑premises software systems into cloud environments and understand how to design solutions that remain scalable, resilient and ready for future growth.
