THE ORGANIZATION:

**Kamloops Aboriginal Friendship Society (KAFS)**was established in 1972 and is a non-profit organization with a status free open-door policy. KAFS is dedicated to empowering the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities of Kamloops and surrounding areas. KAFS provides culturally appropriate programs and inclusive services that meet the needs of urban Indigenous people to become healthier, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

KAFS is seeking a Returning to the Community and Culture Facilitator to support Section 84 release planning and the reintegration of Indigenous offenders returning to community. This role is responsible for outreach, community engagement, and coordination with Correctional Service Canada (CSC) personnel to support informed release planning and the identification of community-based reintegration supports.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Indigenous Reintegration Officer will build and maintain working relationships across community and institutional partners, increase awareness and utilization of Section 84, Section 81, and CSC’s Indigenous Continuum of Care supports, and maintain accurate documentation and resource information to support release planning and reintegration coordination. This is a community-facing role requiring clear communication, sound judgment, and consistent follow-through.

This opportunity is aContract Positionwith a term end date ofMarch 31, 2027. Extensions are not guaranteed and are contingent on funding.

A DAY IN THE LIFE – ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide community education and information about Section 84, Section 81, and CSC’s Indigenous Continuum of Care and interventions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with CSC personnel and relevant community contacts to support reintegration planning and release coordination.
  • Identify, develop, and maintain a continuously updated resource list to support reintegration needs, including housing, counselling, health services, addictions services, employment and education supports, and Elder supports.
  • Identify and share community contacts and resources that may support CSC personnel when preparing release plans for Indigenous offenders.
  • Support the development of a clear, consistent process for CSC engagement with Indigenous communities and organizations related to corrections and reintegration planning.
  • Provide information that supports the development of Section 84 release plans, working collaboratively with CSC personnel and community partners.
  • Track outreach and engagement activity and maintain accurate records aligned with program requirements.
  • Prepare regular reports and documentation, including contact tracking, community resource updates, and summaries of weekly hours and travel.
  • Travel within the region and to federal institutions as required to support relationship-building, education, and reintegration planning.
  • Participate in meetings with CSC and community partners, in person or by conference call, as required.
  • On mutual agreement, support additional offender reintegration and community development activities, as requested by the Project Authority.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of direct experience in community outreach, relationship-building, and coordinating supports within social services, justice, corrections, reintegration, or Indigenous community-based programs.
  • Cultural knowledge and a genuine commitment to embedding cultural practices in all aspects of the work.
  • Demonstrated ability to build respectful working relationships with Indigenous communities/organizations and collaborate effectively with institutional or government partners.
  • Working knowledge of community-based reintegration supports and the ability to identify, build, and maintain an up-to-date network of resources and community contacts (housing, health, addictions, counselling, employment, education, Elder supports).
  • Experience delivering education or information sessions to partners or stakeholders, with the ability to explain processes clearly and professionally.
  • Proven ability to track engagement activity, maintain accurate documentation, and produce clear written summaries and reports on schedule.
  • Highly organized, with reliable follow-through and the ability to manage multiple priorities, contacts, and deadlines while working independently.
  • Sound judgment and discretion when working with sensitive information across community and institutional environments.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for correspondence, stakeholder engagement, and reporting.
  • Computer proficiency, including email, documentation, and basic tracking tools (Excel/Word or similar).
  • Ability to travel within the region and to Pacific Region federal institutions, as required.

SCHEDULE AND TRAVEL:

-**Contract Position:**Term ends on March 31, 2027. -**Working Schedule:**4 days per week, 8:30am -4:30pm, with flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed. -**Travel:**Estimated at 10%. You will be required to use your personal vehicle for business purposes and will be reimbursed according to KAFS policy.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
