Purpose:
The Director, Pharmaceutical Relations and Strategy is responsible for developing and strengthening strategic supplier partnerships and leading contracting activities that support all pharmaceutical operations, with a particular focus on specialty pharmacy and complex pharmaceutical categories.
Reporting to the CFO, this role provides hands-on leadership across supplier relationship management, contract negotiation and execution, and commercial performance initiatives. The Director will play a key strategic role in translating supplier agreements into meaningful commercial opportunities and operational value across our lines of business.
This position is ideally suited for a seasoned senior leader with strong people leadership capabilities and significant exposure to executive-level strategy and decision-making.
Location: Royal Drugs, Mississauga (2785 Skymark Avenue, Unit 2 Mississauga, ON L4W 4Y3) (OnSite 5 days a week)

Job Responsibilities:
Supplier & Relationship Management

Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with key pharmaceutical manufacturers and suppliers.

Lead relationship management efforts with a particular focus on specialty pharmaceuticals, including biosimilar and generic partners.

Stay at the forefront of emerging product launches, market trends, and reimbursement developments to support business growth and innovation.
-
Act as a strategic partner to business lines, supporting commercial initiatives and organizational objectives.

Negotiate pricing margins, service reimbursement fees, and related commercial terms in collaboration with business leaders.

Serve as the senior escalation point for supplier-related matters, including pricing disputes, access challenges, and service level concerns.

Lead supplier communication strategies and represent the organization in business review meetings with key partners.

Ensure supplier relationships align with operational excellence, service reliability, and financial performance objectives.
Contract Review & Commercial Support

Lead the review, negotiation, and administration of supplier, manufacturer, and wholesaler agreements, including pricing structures, rebates, contract terms, and renewal schedules.

Identify contractual risks, gaps, and opportunities to strengthen commercial value, improve economics, and mitigate organizational exposure.
Purchasing & Sourcing Strategy

Support and execute sourcing and procurement strategies aimed at optimizing cost of goods sold, strengthening margin performance, and ensuring supply continuity.

Analyze purchasing, utilization, and pricing data to identify cost-saving opportunities, sourcing efficiencies, and supplier performance trends.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Finance on pricing analysis, budget impacts, and margin reporting.
- Collaborate with Operations and Pharmacy leadership to ensure purchasing strategies support operational service levels, patient care, and organizational growth plans.
- Prepare analyses, summaries, and strategic recommendations for senior leadership related to supplier performance, purchasing decisions, and commercial opportunities.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by Management.
Qualifications:

6–10 years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical relations, procurement, purchasing, or strategic sourcing.

Demonstrated experience within pharmacy, pharmaceutical distribution, specialty pharmacy, or a similarly regulated healthcare environment.

Previous people leadership experience, including managing, coaching, or mentoring direct reports.
Skills:
-
Strong understanding of supplier agreements, pricing models, rebate structures, and commercial negotiations.
-
Experience with specialty pharmacy, specialty distributors, and/or complex pharmaceutical supply chains is considered a strong asset.
-
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside senior finance and executive leadership.
