The Program
Taproot Community Support Services (formerly WJS Canada) works to improve the lives of person in their communities through a variety of programs and services.
In Vegreville, Taproot Community Support Services provides home-based programs and community supports for individuals with developmental disabilities or an acquired brain injury, as well as, addiction, complex mental health needs and complex behaviours.
Through community living and life skill coaching, our highly skilled team encourage inclusion, harm reduction and participation to become active and involved in their communities.
In Your Role You Will
- Assist with recruitment, screening, hiring, orientation, supervision, evaluation and discipline of program staff.
- Ensure necessary facilities and equipment are in place to operate the program.
- Coordinate work allocation and assigns referrals; process time off requests as required.
- Works with program manager to identify professional development and training needs of staff.
- Ensure the program and staff comply with policies, procedures and values of the agency, and use best practices when supporting persons served.
- Make recommendations to the Program Director/Management regarding program development, formulation of policies and procedures, and program evaluation.
- Facilitate regular staff meetings.
- Advocate effectively for service recipients.
- Represent the program and/or agency in the community, as well as with government agencies, families/caregivers and funding bodies; network with other agencies, organizations, individuals and community groups for the benefit of the service recipients and program,
- Ensure physical environment is maintained according to established standards and procedures, required inspections are completed, and any required follow-up is done.

The Position
The Team Leader (TL) is responsible for oversight of program operations in this ACDS CET-accredited agency. Ensures day-to-day services to persons served, complies with contacts, Taproot policies and procedures, and applicable standards and legislation. Works directly with persons served and their families/care teams as required, and liaises with funders, community partners and other agencies. This position reports to the Program Director.
Scheduling:
One (1) permanent, full-time position of 40 hours per week, with a flexible weekly schedule.
- The schedule will be confirmed and discussed at the time of hire and will be adjusted as needed to meet the operational requirements of the program and some hours may be required to be done online.
- Will be required to provide on-call and after hours support as needed.
Mandatory Pre-Employment Screenings and Checks
***Prior to confirmation of employment, all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.
As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
- Degree in the field of human services: Social Work, Social Services, Special Education, Psychology, Sociology, etc.
- 3 years' experience providing residential service to persons with developmental disabilities and complex needs; Disability Support Worker or Practitioner, Healthcare Aide or LPN
- Minimum of 1 year supervisory, leadership and crisis management skills
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience writing and implementing program plans and goals an asset
- Valid class 5 driver license, clear driving abstract and vehicle
- Calm, confident, patient, self-motivated and motivates others; a positive role model.
