We are looking for a Senior Estimator to lead the preparation of accurate, competitive, and well‑supported estimates for marine and heavy civil construction projects. This is a key leadership role responsible for managing multiple tenders, conducting risk assessments, coordinating subcontractors, and developing winning proposals.
You will work closely with project teams, subcontractors, and senior leadership to ensure every estimate reflects strong methodology, sound judgment, and deep knowledge of marine and piling construction. This role also provides mentorship to junior estimators and supports continuous improvement within the estimating department.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex estimates throughout the full bid cycle, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and high-quality submissions
- Review and analyze tender documents to identify risks, opportunities, and constructability considerations
- Prepare risk analyses and recommend contingency strategies
- Develop detailed, well‑organized estimates for hard bid, design‑build, and construction management opportunities
- Review and coordinate subcontractor and supplier quotations; support scope alignment and buy‑out planning
- Direct, mentor, and support junior estimators with pricing, takeoffs, and data gathering
- Track project outcomes and integrate lessons learned into future estimates
- Maintain and update pricing databases, labour rates, equipment costs, and production metrics
- Uphold VanPile’s commitment to Health, Safety & Environment during estimating and planning processes
Education & Job Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- P.Eng. designation is an asset
Experience
- Minimum 8+ years of senior-level estimating experience in marine, piling, or heavy civil construction
- Demonstrated success with complex lump‑sum tenders
- Experience with marine works, deep foundations, piling, and waterfront structures is a strong asset
Technical Requirements
- Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., HeavyBid) or willingness to learn
- Strong skills in Excel, AutoCAD, and MS Project
- Thorough understanding of labour/equipment/material pricing and production rates
- Ability to interpret drawings and lead accurate quantity takeoffs
- Knowledge of union agreements, prevailing wage structures, and regional cost factors
Skills & Attributes

- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent time‑management skills with the ability to handle multiple bids

Salary:$120K - $140k per annum
The actual salary offered to the successful candidate will be determined based on job‑related factors including relevant experience, years of experience, qualifications, internal equity, and Carlson Construction Group’s compensation policy.
