About the role
What You’ll Do
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Associate Vice President to lead our Income Tax Team. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge in tax regulations, compliance, and strategic tax planning. This role requires a seasoned professional with at least 10 years of experience in income tax management, preferably within a large organization or public accounting firm.
- Lead the Income Tax Team and assist in providing strategic direction and oversight.
- Develop and implement comprehensive tax strategies to optimize the company's tax position.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align tax strategies with overall business goals.
- Lead and manage special tax projects to drive tax savings and efficiencies.
- Assist with strategic transactions including acquisitions and divestitures.
- Manage all tax projects including M&A due diligence, tax impacts of new products and services, geographical expansion.
- Respond to tax-related inquiries and provide technical tax guidance to internal stakeholders as needed.
- Manage any tax audits, notices and enquiries received from tax authorities.
- Identify and mitigate potential tax risks through effective internal controls and risk management practices.
- Monitor legislative changes in tax laws that may impact tax positions, including tax accounting implications.
- Provides oversight of income tax compliance and tax reporting including all related analysis and support.
- Provide detailed analysis and reporting on tax-related matters to executive management.
- Assist with enhancing internal controls related to tax matters are in place and operating correctly, identify any gaps in internal controls and ensure remediation and formalization of tax policies and procedure.
- Leverage AI/Automation to optimize the operations of the Tax function.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team.
- Mentor and coach team members.
What You Bring
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in income tax management.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- Experience in a large corporation or public accounting firm is highly desirable.
- Deep understanding of income tax laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in tax research tools and software applications (e.g., OneSource, CorpTax).
- Strong knowledge of IFRS as it relates to income taxes.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to identifying issues and implementing solutions.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a high-performing team.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.
- A collaborative team player, able to partner with internal and external contacts at all levels to drive efficiency and improvements in the income tax function.
- Ability to think strategically and align tax initiatives with broader business objectives.
- Strong business acumen with an understanding of how tax decisions impact overall financial performance.
