Job Summary

Reporting to the Academic Administrative Officer, the Distance Education (DE) Assistant works closely with the DE Program Director and the DE Program Assistant (PEA) to provide support for online/blended learning course delivery in the School of Social Work. This position has responsibilities to provide general support within the front office and backup support to the Office Manager/Assistant to Director.

The DE Assistant plays an essential role in ensuring CourseSpaces (UVic's Online Learning Management System) sites are available for instructors on a timely basis so that they may successfully teach their DE and On-Campus/blended learning courses. Primary responsibilities involve assistance with maintaining, editing and configuring CS layouts, preparing required course materials for students each term.

In support of the program, the position also provides administrative support in hiring processes and financial transactions.

Job Requirements

Skills

  • Advanced proficiency using MS Office applications and experience working with databases and spreadsheets
  • Strong technology support skills and knowledge
  • Flexibility, adaptability and comfort with procedural and technical change
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently within a team environment and in a busy and noisy work environment with frequent interruptions
  • Attention to detail
  • Skilled in using tact and diplomacy in stressful situations Possess a positive attitude and contribute to a professional environment.

Specialized Knowledge/Education:

High school graduation and some post-secondary courses.

Experience

  • 2 years experience working in an office setting.
  • Experience with UVic systems is an asset(i.e. FAST, Banner, Cascade, Course Spaces)
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
