About the role

As a Tax Manager in our Domestic Tax team, you’ll work with a wide variety of clients and build your experience in new industries. Working with some of Canada’s top gurus in Tax, a career in tax at Doane Grant Thornton is an opportunity to create your unique career journey .

Joining our robust team of over 400 tax professionals means you’ll collaborate with colleagues across service lines such as Advisory and Specialty Tax, which will broaden your perspective and help you solve client problems, delivering personalized solutions.

Who We Are You know those big cities that still feel like small towns? Where everyone’s friendly and helps each other out? That’s like Doane Grant Thornton. Except here we’re all professionals and there isn’t a mayor or a general store. What we’re trying to say is that we’re a large and growing professional services firm that still feels like a community. We employ over 3000 people across Canada, and we truly care about our colleagues, our clients and the communities where we work and live. That’s what’s most important to us. We’re building a thriving organization that’s purpose driven and still want to remember what your favourite milkshake flavour is.

As a Tax Manager, you’ll help our clients with corporate tax planning so they can benefit from tax savings and incentives. Here’s some of what you’ll get to do:

  • Coaching and mentoring a team of tax colleagues on compliance, helping them walk in clients' shoes by discussing tax planning options
  • Establish deep trusting relationships with clients as you advise them on complex tax matters
  • Advise clients on reorganizations, rollovers, windups, estate and succession planning, as well as manage T1, T2 and T3 returns
  • Proactively resolve tax related issues with clients and other team members
  • Act as a leader in the management of our growing tax practice, identifying and developing new opportunities for additional tax services

A typical day… You talk with the CFO from a large manufacturing client, and , the Tax Partner, will challenge your thinking as you work through uncovering pain points and providing tax solutions. You share your feedback with your coachees, ensuring they have what they need to complete their files and feel supported. Later, you get a call from Namita, a client who has a question about taking over her dad’s business. A quick Teams check-in with , who specializes in International Tax, ensures you’re ready for tomorrow’s meeting. But not before a quick jog on the treadmill overlooking the water at the free gym downstairs.

Think you’ve got what it takes to be a Tax Manager? Like the colour purple? Great. Here's a few more boxes we’re also hoping you can tick:

  • You’re enrolled in or have completed the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course, or have a Masters of Taxation degree
  • You’ve developed and presented new ideas and conceptualized new approaches and tax solutions for clients as part of your commitment to providing exceptional client service
  • You have solid experience in corporate and personal Canadian tax compliance
  • You’ve helped mentor and develop others

Ok, but what’s it really like working in Tax at Doane Grant Thornton? “My colleagues have fostered an inclusive and collaborative work culture that I enjoy coming to everyday. Not only that, the leaders I work with have helped me focus in on an area of tax that I’m most passionate about and supported me in reaching opportunities at a very early stage in my career.” -Roshni L., Tax Manager.
