Position Description:

The Itinerant Student Resource Teacher (grades 9 - 12) will provide individual, classroom and school level support for students and teachers as they deliver programs for improved student achievement. Reporting directly to the System Principal of Indigenous Education, the Itinerant Student Resource Teacher will work in collaboration with the Indigenous Education Lead and department members to support student learning within the Halton District School Board (HDSB).

The Itinerant Student Resource Teacher's responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate regularly with school core teams for timely academic interventions
  • Co-develop instructional strategies with school teams in support of student engagement
  • Build relationships with students and families
  • Support the fundamental principles of the Ministry of Education's*Growing Success: Assessment, Evaluation, and Reporting in Ontario Schools,1st Ed., Covering Grades 1-12 (2010), and the Ministry of Education's: Assessment & Evaluation (2024)*principles for student achievement

Qualifications and/or equivalent experience in the following areas would be assets:

  • Ontario College of Teachers' Certificate of Qualification, in Good Standing
  • Intermediate and/Senior English or Math Qualifications Required
  • Special Education Part 1 Qualifications Required
  • FNMI Part 1 Qualifications Required -Minimum five years of successful teaching experience -Knowledge of the scope and sequence of Primary/Junior Curriculum -Lived experience and/or experience with Indigenous communities is preferred

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of responsive pedagogies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, presentation and media fluency
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with a strong understanding of factors impacting achievement
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team, willingness to be flexible and able to work cooperatively with others
  • Proven ability to manage and safeguard sensitive data
  • Experience with Aspen software would be an asset
  • Proficient in using g-tools and various presentation platforms
  • Demonstrated experience with UNDRIP and TRC
  • Effective use of technology enhanced learning to support student achievement
  • Exceptional collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated experience teaching First Nations, Metis, and Inuit Studies Curriculum (Secondary), as well as other curriculum areas for cross-curricular integration and synthesis
  • A strong knowledge of the diversity of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit histories, contributions and brilliance
