Position Summary Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) is an organization which has a mandate to coordinate the delivery of health services to the First Nations communities in the Sioux Lookout Area. SLFNHA is seeking a dynamic and energetic individual to be responsible for the recruitment and retention needs of the Sioux Lookout Regional Physician’ Services Inc. (SLRPSI), including Specialist Physicians.
The Recruiter – Physician Services plays a critical role in ensuring we are hiring the best possible talent by developing and executing recruitment plans, retention initiatives, network through agency contacts, association membership, employees, coordinating/implementing college/university initiatives, administrative duties and record keeping.
Accountability The Recruiter – Physician Services is directly accountable to the Director – Physician Services.
Qualifications
- Degree in Business, with areas of concentration in Marketing, Industrial Relations and/or Human Resource Management, or a combination of education/experience as deemed acceptable by SLFNHA
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in recruiting (Asset: experience in recruiting physician, healthcare or agency recruiting)
- Innovative thinker, able to use and develop new sources for recruitment.
- Strong interviewing skills – use of various techniques
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with physicians, healthcare professionals, business partners, educational institutions, external agencies, community stakeholders, employees, and the public.
- Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information.
- Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong customer/client service orientation, positive attitude, highly self-motivated, and open to change management.
- Knowledge and experience in employment and contract negotiations.
- Strong problem solving skills; ability to develop alternative solutions to problems, comparing and analyzing data, preparing clear, concise, thorough, meaningful, and grammatically correct written reports, letters, memoranda, and other documents.
- Ability to independently plan, organize, prioritize, schedule, coordinate and make revisions relating to assigned tasks.
- Must be able to prioritize multiple responsibilities and manage a large workload, sometimes within tight deadlines.
- Ability to attend and conduct job recruitment fairs.
- Valid Ontario G drivers licence
- Ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects of the Sioux Lookout region is an asset.
- Ability to perform the requirements of the role on a regular basis
Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead full-cycle physician recruitment by sourcing, screening, and engaging candidates through advertising, networking, residency programs, job fairs, conferences, and other recruitment channels.
- Develop and maintain physician opportunity profiles, recruitment campaigns, job postings, and marketing materials to attract qualified candidates.
- Coordinate candidate interviews, site visits, travel arrangements, community tours, and onboarding activities to ensure a positive recruitment experience.
- Facilitate physician orientation and integration into the organization and community, providing ongoing support during relocation and transition periods.
- Collaborate with medical leadership to review applications, verify qualifications, and support credentialing and privileging processes.
- Build and maintain relationships with healthcare partners, northern communities, nursing stations, Band Offices, educational institutions, and physician training programs to support recruitment and retention initiatives.
- Maintain accurate recruitment records, candidate databases, and reporting systems; monitor recruitment activities and provide regular updates to leadership, physician groups, funders, and the Board.
- Support physician retention efforts through regular follow-up with new hires, evaluation of onboarding processes, and identification of continuous improvement opportunities.
- Research physician workforce trends, market conditions, and competitor activities to inform recruitment and retention strategies.
- Coordinate recruitment and retention committees, community engagement initiatives, and physician outreach activities.
- Collect, analyze, and report physician workforce data, supporting quality improvement initiatives, program evaluation, funding applications, and organizational reporting requirements.
- Promote healthcare career opportunities within local schools and communities to support future workforce development.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- Frequent use of computer, keyboard and mouse
- Prolonged viewing of computer screens
- Travel required
- Must be willing to relocate to Sioux Lookout
- Must be willing and able to work flexible hours.
- Required to work days, sometimes evenings and weekends, if necessary.
- Overtime as required.
