About the Position: Reporting to the Edmonton Business Manager, this role is responsible for the overall operation of the Grande Prairie location as well as the supervision of the local staff. The role is also responsible for all client service areas within the facility including sample receipt, login, shipping, and reporting services, as well as local laboratory operation. This is a key position that assists the Edmonton Business Manager in the overall operation of the location with respect to sales, customer relationships, client services, and local laboratory operation.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide information to clients on depot & regional services, contacts and capabilities, etc.;
  • Ensure that client communications are responded to promptly;
  • Coordinates and/or oversees the preparation of sampling supplies for client bottle orders using ALS solutions
  • Coordinates and/or oversees the entry of analytical requests (login) into the laboratory database and the shipping of samples to the applicable ALS laboratory;
  • Act as the primary contact for specified local clients (in person and via phone, email, or other media);
  • Answer incoming technical queries or forward to an appropriate ALS staff if necessary;
  • Ensure timely completion and transmission of final and draft local client reports;
  • Organizes workloads and manages staff scheduling and coverage planning to meet client turnaround times and sample hold times;
  • Develop business relationships and opportunities with clients in conjunction with Management and Sales;
  • Meet with/visit local area clients at a specified frequency to provide service support;
  • Coordinate and/or oversees the coverage (carrying) of the after-hours emergency phone;
  • Coordinate and participate in industry and ALS organized events on behalf of ALS;
  • Engages in continual planning and identification of needs to meet local business strategies;
  • Assists with budget activities and cost control to achieve EBIT targets;
  • Establish effective communication with local staff and actively provide appropriate information to maintain engagement;
  • Actively support the quality program mandates; including training, completing routine checks, participating in audits, resolving quality issues in a timely manner and ensuring that analytical records and quality documentation is maintained;
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Manage local purchasing/ordering of supplies and inventory including approval of ORACLE requests;
  • Effectively manage human resources including recruiting, performance management, training, attendance and staff scheduling/timekeeping as they relate to the depot operations;
  • Promotes and sustains a strong health and safety culture in the depot;
  • Observes established safety regulations and complies with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Carry out or assign the role of the local Safety First Aid representative;
  • Ensures depot assets are managed and maintained in compliance with ALS policies and requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Detail-oriented, results-focused, and strong organization skills;

  • Demonstrated judgement, creativity, integrity and ability to problem solve;
  • Ability to effectively handle escalations and time critical issues;
  • A strong customer service focus;
  • Actively practice teamwork with strong interpersonal and leadership skills;
  • Strong safety and quality service approach with the ability to understand business operations and client requirements;
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Excel, MS Word and PowerPoint;
  • Strong command of the English language, both verbal and written communication skills.

Required Qualifications

  • Recognized Technical Diploma or Degree in Chemistry, or related discipline preferred;
  • Minimum 2-3 years work experience in the customer service and or sales industry;
  • Minimum of 1-2 years leadership or supervisory experience required;
  • First Aid Certificate or the ability to obtain one;
  • TDG Ground and Air Certification, or willingness to obtain training;
  • Valid Provincial Class 5 driver's license with clean driving history (abstract required).

Physical Demands

  • Able to stand for up to a full shift;
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
  • Able to lift 50lbs and carry for short distances;
  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
  • You may be exposed to unpleasant odours;
