Wage Information: An hourly rate of pay of $29.06 (starting) - $30.23 (after 3 months) - $31.43 (after 12 months)

Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Coordinator or designate, the Facility Operator 1 is responsible for maintaining the facilities, performing minor maintenance tasks, doing setups and performing custodial services at the assigned facilities to ensure the facilities and equipment are well maintained and safe to operate and occupy.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and prepare preliminary reports, records, and information regarding materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ensure the facilities are maintained and cleaned according to established standards. Complete maintenance inspections and perform maintenance and custodial duties as required and where qualified. Ensures Health and Safety standards are adhered to.
  • Ensure supplies are in stock to maintain the facilities at the established standards.
  • Provide guidance and support to Facility Attendants and Facility Assistants.
  • Participate in on-call schedule for operational issues and works shifts including evenings, midnights, weekends and statutory holidays as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent. Standard First Aid and CPR certification and Working at Heights Certificate. Propane Handlers Certificate, HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development, and Refrigeration Operator Class B Certificate are an asset.
  • Relevant certifications based on work assignment, including: Pool Operators Certificate with three years' experience in pool operations and maintenance; and ORFA Certified Ice Technician Designation with knowledge of refrigeration equipment maintenance, ice making and general maintenance procedures, required.
  • Knowledge and experience working in compliance with relevant Federal and Provincial legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS 2015, Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, and Occupiers Liability Act.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and rectify and/or report actual and potential safety hazards.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment, and to exhibit courtesy, tact and diplomacy in dealing with the public, department officials and other members of staff. Ability to adhere to confidentiality requirements at all times.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, problem-solving and time management skills. Ability to maintain records and prepare and present reports.
  • Ability to direct and provide guidance to staff.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Ability to provide an acceptable current vulnerable sector check.
  • Possess the physical ability to perform the essential duties of the job.
  • A valid Class G Driver's license in good standing with an acceptable driver's abstract and access to a reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
