Our Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity available for a permanent, full time Team Leader on our afternoon shift in our Sorting department at our Thorold Distribution Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the department group leader and team members while also carrying out book handling tasks efficiently with a high degree of accuracy.
Main responsibilities:
- Working afternoon shifts (5 shifts per week) as assigned, arriving on time and ready to work. This role requires a Tuesday to Saturday schedule and a regular 3:30 p.m. start time for preparation before the 3:45 p.m. shift start. Shifts run until 12:15 a.m., with additional time required as needed at the end of the shift to complete Team Leader responsibilities based on business needs
- Working closely with the Group Leader to understand the team’s performance metrics, and mentoring and supporting individual team members to achieve their best results
- Coaching, mentoring, and training team members with process improvements, practices and playing a lead role in onboarding new team members
- Identifying and resolving issues impacting the team’s engagement and performance, with the support of the Group Leader as required
- Ensuring team members are aware and compliant with company policies and practices
- Promoting a clean, organized, safe and supportive team environment
- Upholding safe work practices in accordance with Book Depot Inc.’s Health and Safety Program
- Identifying and participating in process improvements, including Lean, and other projects as required
- Regular lifting of totes and boxes that weigh approximately 45 lbs.
- Working effectively and conscientiously with your team members and completing book-handling tasks in various departments as required (i.e., sorting, restock, shipping)
- Carrying out book-handling tasks that require all-day standing and repetitive movements including: bending, squatting, and lifting
- Maintaining Book Depot Inc.’s standards, productivity, and accuracy levels
- Using our warehouse management computer software to ensure the accuracy of our inventory and/or customer orders
- Other related responsibilities as required
Qualifications, skills, and abilities:
- Completion of grade 12 education or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience coaching, training, and mentoring within a warehouse setting is an asset
- Positive attitude, punctual and strong work ethic; ability to work in a high-performing and fast-paced work environment
- Good understanding of computers
- Good English communication skills (oral and written)
- Strong attention to detail, identifying and sharing continuous improvement opportunities
- Ability to work independently, while part of a team
