About the role
Northern Transformer Corporation is a North American manufacturer of liquid filled transformers of the highest quality and reliability serving the North American market since 1981. From custom specialty transformers to large utility substations, Northern Transformer designs, engineers and manufactures liquid filled transformers to fit all needs.
Due to the growth of our business, we have an opening for a Welder to join our team.
The Welder will read welding blueprints and drawing specifications, and fabricate tanks and boxes required to build transformers in compliance with CSA and CWS standards, using appropriate shop equipment. He/she will interact with co-workers and take direction from the shop Supervisor in completing assigned projects.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
Read and interpret welding blueprints and drawing specifications.
Fabricate tanks and boxes using Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) techniques.
Work independently with minimum technical direction and supervision.
Plan and implement solutions to mechanical problems with Supervisor’s help.
Examine welds and ensure that they meet standards and/or specifications.
Pay mental and visual attention involving tolerances.
Handle medium to heavy materials intermittently.
Complete work within expected periods of time.
Minimize scrap and rework.
Complete shop records accurately and completely follow company policies and procedures.
Work safely, using all safety equipment supplied.
Communicate well with colleagues and supervision.
Requirements
Knowledge of metal work fundamentals and Canadian Welding Bureau Certification.
Minimum of one year successful experience in the metal stamping, metal fabricating or similar related industry.
Ability in handling heavy loads, standing for extended periods and attention to detail.
Ability to operate manual, semi-automatic or fully automated welding equipment, manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment, oxygen arc cutting equipment (arc-air), drill presses, and hoisting/ lifting equipment.
Ability to use hand measuring instruments such as tapes and squares.
Highly motivated individual with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast paced environment.
Working Hours
Day Shift: Monday to Thursday 7am – 4pm, Friday 7am – 1:30pm
Afternoon Shift: Monday to Thursday 4pm-2:30am
Salary: $24.33-$30.31
Location: Maple, Vaughan, Ontario
