About The Role We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated PV Designer with 1–3 years of experience to support our Commercial team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, planning, and assisting in the execution of solar projects while ensuring compliance with technical, regulatory, and safety standards. You will work closely with internal teams and external partners — including subcontractors and local distribution companies — to deliver efficient, high-quality solar energy solutions.
Key Responsibilities
System Design & Engineering
- Conduct feasibility studies to optimize system performance and layout.
- Develop solar system models, layouts, and permit-ready designs based on site photos and customer requirements.
- Prepare electrical drawings (including single-line diagrams), structural drawings, and design documentation.
- Provide technical support to sales and project management teams, clarifying system capabilities and limitations.
- Stay up to date on emerging solar technologies, inverters, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and grid interconnection policies.
Project Coordination
- Review proposals, contracts, and change orders to understand customer and company responsibilities.
- Communicate with customers, sales teams, and project managers to ensure designs meet requirements.
- Collaborate with structural and electrical engineers to ensure compliance with local building codes, safety standards, and utility regulations.
- Support project managers in coordinating outsourced design work — assigning, monitoring, and reviewing deliverables.
- Apply strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and respond to unplanned or urgent requests.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Design, or a related discipline (preferred).
- 1–3 years of experience in commercial or industrial solar projects.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp) for solar layouts.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across teams and external stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and eager to learn.
- Knowledge of Building Code and/or Electrical Safety Code (asset).
- Experience with BESS and grid interconnection (asset).
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and re-prioritize work as needed.
