Location: Remote from any ALS hub locations, globally

Reports to: Global Quality Manager, Geochemistry

About the Position:

This position is responsible for monitoring and reviewing quality control data from global laboratories, reporting on them and working with local QC and Laboratory managers to resolve findings. It plays a key role in ensuring that ALS continues to provide superior quality analytical services to our clients.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Perform Vertical Audits on analyses performed at global laboratories for compliance to standard operating procedures, including reporting;
  • Monitor, and report on global quality control performance indicators (KQIs);
  • Organize, evaluate and report on various round robin programs for Geochemistry;
  • Collaborate with and assist regional quality and laboratory staff to identify root cause and corrective actions of findings from Vertical Audits, Round Robins and KQIs;
  • Perform on-site Quality audits for global locations in a Lead Auditor role, report on results and assist with timely resolution of findings;
  • Resolve Client Quality inquiries including internal investigation and corresponding with the client;
  • Maintain the Global Quality helpdesk mailbox and provide aid regional labs on various topics or delegating to the appropriate party;
  • Provide Training to Regional QC groups on subjects including performing Vertical and Global audits, and technical items;
  • Assemble information for ALS-Client meetings;
  • Participate in and assemble information for appropriate Peer Group(s);
  • Administer Quality documentation;
  • Assemble information for Quality Alerts;
  • Review method validations for acceptance;
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint;
  • Critical thinker with strong problem solving and research proficiencies;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent clerical accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated judgement and creativity;
  • Ability to effectively handle escalations and time critical issues;
  • Multilingualism an asset.

Required Qualifications:

  • Recognized B.Sc. or Technical Diploma in Chemistry (or related field);
  • Minimum 1 year experience with modern analytical techniques and instrumentation (i.e. AAS, ICP, ICP-MS), and/or Fire Assay and Finish.

Physical Demands:

  • Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks such as keyboarding;
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
  • Ability to communicate via telephone and email without assistance;
  • Business travel will be required in this role.

  • An estimated hourly pay of $32.63 CAD is applicable for candidates based in Canada at the time of posting. Compensation rates may vary for other locations. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
