Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Warehouse Supervisor, the Shipper is responsible for organizing, billing, invoicing, shipping and scheduling of all outbound shipments. The Shipper is responsible for loading/directing the appropriate packages/pallets onto the correct carrier’s trailers. This position will provide significant input into all performance appraisals pertaining to the shipping/packing/checking teams. It is important for this role to collaboratively work with the packing and checking team to ensure all priority shipments are processed in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Previous warehouse experience is preferred

Previous shipping experience required, extensive knowledge of shipping/checking/packing processes

Class 2 MHE Narrow Aisle certified (Will provide training & In-house certification)

Ability to explain processes and implement changes and improvements within the shipping department

Able to safely operate pallet jack (manual/electronic)

Working knowledge of computerized inventory systems

Experienced on warehouse PICK (internal system), particularly invoice printing

Ability to follow paperwork flow

Understanding of courier systems and manual waybills

Able to work cohesively with all team members

Can respond to or exceed established standards for speed and accuracy

In-depth knowledge with invoicing and packing processes

Can work well under pressure and meet deadlines

Strong customer service values

Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written

Working Conditions

40 hours per week; occasional overtime required

Must wear CSA approved safety footwear with protective steel toes and other personal protective equipment as required.

Able to perform continuous lifting up to 50lbs

Bending, pulling, standing and stretching required throughout day

Able to work at heights of 20 plus ft on Narrow Aisle Order Picker

Use of ladder

Job Responsibilities

Establish and maintain processes to actively meet or exceed goals and objectives for the Shipping Department

Ensure that the shipping operation meets or exceeds its established goals of shipping 100 % of all orders released by credit by 5:00 p.m.

Strive to achieve 99.5% shipping accuracy rates

Awareness of carrier pickup schedules

Count and consolidate multi-piece shipments

Monitor and prioritize time sensitive orders

Enter all shipment details via carrier system to print or create manual labels

Ability to fill out manual waybills

Validate all shipment details – address, weight, pieces etc.

Invoice low and high bay sections of order on pick system

List case contents as per check/pack notes, affix tracking information

Calculate and enter freight charges on pick system where applicable

Remit CBD details to appropriate personnel, when necessary

Match labels/waybills to cases or packages and attach same

Match invoice and shipping details to cases/packages

Stage shipments as per carrier

Compile and wrap palletized shipments, place in staging area

Report any discrepancies which may impede on shipping accuracy

Ensure that all checked and packed orders meet all shipping requirements

Provide shipping details and quotes to CSRs when required

Perform end of day sweep in shipping area to ensure all released orders have been shipped

Ensure work area is neat and tide, free of hazards and debris

Report any problems with equipment without delay

Communicate with shipping team members to avoid “bottlenecks”

Clarify shipment details with CSR group as necessary

Maintain contact with credit department to ensure CBD orders are approved in a timely manner

Cooperate with high bay pickers, checkers and packers to expedite large shipments

Maintain open communications with carriers and dispatchers as required

Inform Inventory Control or Returns of any deleted or cancelled orders

Actively participate in process analysis and improvement activities

Maintain a neat and tidy work environment

Adhere to current and future company policies and standards to ensure a safe and agreeable working environment

Assist in other areas of the warehouse and additional duties as required by management

Working Relationships & Communications

Notify management regarding supply needs, equipment problems, and workload variances

Participates in general warehouse meetings

Work in cooperation and communicate effectively with all levels of the SanMar Canada team

Keep co-workers informed of activities that have implications to their departments

Openly communicate any success, concerns, or problems related to the job
