Role Overview

NScale is seeking a SCADA / OT Networking Specialist to support the design, deployment, and operation of highly available OT networks and SCADA platforms across NScale data centers. This role owns the intersection of PLC systems, industrial networking, and SCADA infrastructure, ensuring that OT environments meet NScale’s resiliency, cybersecurity, and performance standards.

This role works closely with Controls Engineers, IT/Network teams, system integrators, and commissioning teams to ensure that SCADA platforms (primarily Inductive Automation Ignition) and OT networks are architected, deployed, and maintained as mission-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities

SCADA Platform Architecture & Support

  • Support the design, deployment, and lifecycle management of Ignition SCADA platforms, including:
  • Redundant gateway architectures.
  • Historian configuration and store-and-forward.
  • OPC UA and MQTT Sparkplug B integrations.
  • Review and validate SCADA architectures for compliance with NScale standards and operational requirements.
  • Support SCADA alarm philosophy, trending, visualization standards, and operator workflows.

OT Network Design & Validation

  • Support the design and review of OT network architectures including:
  • EtherNet/IP networks
  • PRP / DLR topologies where applicable
  • VLAN segmentation and zone-based architectures
  • Validate network designs for redundancy, determinism, and elimination of single points of failure.
  • Review vendor and integrator network designs for compliance with NScale OT Datacenter Design Standards.

Cybersecurity & Access Control

  • Ensure OT networks and SCADA platforms comply with NScale cybersecurity requirements:
  • Network segmentation and firewall policies
  • Secure remote access
  • Authentication, MFA, and role-based access
  • Secure OPC UA / MQTT configurations
  • Support coordination with cybersecurity teams on patching, vulnerability management, and incident response.

Vendor & Integrator Coordination

  • Interface with system integrators, networking vendors, and SCADA providers to:
  • Review technical designs and configurations.
  • Resolve OT networking or SCADA integration challenges.
  • Support FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities.
  • Validate that integrator deliverables (network configs, SCADA projects, documentation) meet NScale expectations.

Testing, Commissioning & Operations

  • Support OT network and SCADA testing during:
  • FAT / CAT
  • SAT
  • Pre-commissioning and commissioning
  • Participate in redundancy and failover testing for SCADA, networks, and compute platforms.
  • Support troubleshooting of OT network or SCADA performance issues during live operations.

Documentation & Standards

  • Ensure OT network and SCADA documentation is complete, accurate, and maintained:
  • Network diagrams
  • VLAN and firewall documentation
  • SCADA architecture and redundancy diagrams
  • Contribute to ongoing improvement of NScale OT and SCADA standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or Technology Diploma in Computer Science, Automation, or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 4+ years of experience supporting SCADA systems and OT networks in industrial or mission-critical environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Inductive Automation Ignition SCADA.
  • Strong understanding of industrial networking concepts (EtherNet/IP, VLANs, redundancy, managed switches).
  • Familiarity with OT cybersecurity principles and network segmentation.
  • Experience working with PLC-based control systems and system integrators.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PRP / DLR architectures.
  • Experience supporting data center BMS / EPMS systems.
  • Ignition certification or equivalent SCADA platform credentials.
