About the role
Department: Operations
Location: Brockville
Description Mission:
Ensure IEC’s Brockville facility delivers high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective motor refurbishment. As the sole engineer, own technical problem-solving, process improvements, and operational engineering solutions. Drive measurable gains in quality, throughput, and reliability through technical expertise, collaboration, and full accountability for engineering outcomes—without direct people management.
Outcomes: 1. Process Documentation & Control: Develop and maintain complete, accurate work instructions, travellers, routings, and specifications for 100% of operations within 6 months.
2. Equipment & Tooling Reliability:
- Maintain >95% uptime across all shop and specialized equipment through preventive maintenance planning, engineering oversight, and root cause analysis of breakdowns.
- Implement documented maintenance standards and improvement plans for critical equipment.
3. Quality: Reduce defect or rework rates by 15% within 12 months through engineering-driven process improvements and operator guidance.
4. Process Efficiency: Reduce standard hours for key operations by 5% within 12 months through tooling, layout, or method improvements.
5. Technical Problem-Solving & Reverse Engineering:
- Complete reverse engineering of new or unknown components within X days of identification to enable uninterrupted operations and delivery commitments.
- Resolve >90% of technical issues within 1 week of reporting, minimizing production delays and downtime.
Role Responsibilities:
- Deep Expertise in Motor/Coil Engineering: winding, insulation systems, testing, and manufacturing methods.
- Process Engineering & Industrialization: ability to design, validate, and scale robust manufacturing processes.
- Analytical & Data-Driven: uses KPIs, data, and structured problem-solving to make decisions and drive improvements.
- Cost-Conscious Engineering: balances design choices, materials, and processes with cost implications.
- Cross-Functional Influence: able to lead through technical expertise and collaboration, not authority.
- Documentation & Standards: strong discipline in specifications, process sheets, PFMEAs, control plans, and SOPs.
