About the role

Position Summary The Manager, Interprofessional Practice and Infection Prevention and Control supports all aspects of interprofessional practice and infection prevention and control practices at Quinte Health under the direction and support of the Director. The Manager provides clinical, operational and management leadership to the team with a focus on the facilitation of evidence-based practices and ensuring all staff are working to full scope to ensure delivery of high quality and safe patient care. The IPP and IPC manager supports the development of an interprofessional educational program and engagement strategy within an integrated practice framework and environment valuing the contributions and experiences of all professional and unregulated staff. The IPP and IPC Manager promotes and facilitates a culture of professionalism, leadership development, and employs change management strategies to further develop the interprofessional care team’ delivery of care. The IPP and IPC manager represents Quinte Health at community and provincial networking opportunities and contributes to the development and alignment of team annual goals with organizational strategic aspirations. Scope includes supervisory leadership for the following positions: Professional Practice Specialists, Skin & Wound Care Specialists, Clinical Resource Nurses and Infection and Prevention Control Practitioners.

Required

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing Science; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Registered in good standing in the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Minimum of two years of recent experience in a professional practice, infection prevention and control or leadership role;
  • Current CPR/BCLS certificate;
  • Recent clinical teaching and coaching experience;
  • Proven ability to lead and implement change and provide education opportunities to direct care providers
  • Proficient in computer applications and software including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook), Cerner, etc;
  • Experience with project management with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities;
  • Experience with facilitation in continuous quality improvement methodologies;
  • Experience with policy development and implementation;
  • Experience in a unionized environment; and
  • Evidence of change management and leadership skills.

Duties In collaboration with and under the direction of the Director:

  • Maintains currency in evidence-based practice for the acute care hospital setting;
  • Maintains currency with health regulatory colleges standards and health care related legislation and regulations;
  • Shares responsibility in the planning, developing and implementation of team goals and key performance indicators;
  • Shares responsibility to prioritize demands & workload across team members;
  • Promotes optimal allocation of resources;
  • Shares in the responsibility of the development, implementation and monitor processes and outcomes of: evidence-based practice guidelines; monitoring clinical outcomes; and team priorities;
  • Participates, facilitates, or leads quality improvement initiatives;
  • Project development, maintenance, performance monitoring, and leadership in evidence-based practices;
  • Identify education needs and facilitate and coordinate education for health care providers in evidence-based practices;
  • Designs and oversees Quinte Health’s onboarding plan for interprofessional team members;
  • Actively participate/co-chair on committees and working groups within Quinte Health and externally as assigned;
  • Provides leadership to the multidisciplinary team members and infection prevention control practitioners (including clinical practice, knowledge transfer, support of health learners, evidence-based care, healthy workplace culture) ;
  • Fosters a culture of patient and family-centered care, professionalism, collaboration and accountability;
  • Provides leadership and guidance to the team in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines or clinical resource materials;
  • Participates with the Director, in the hiring, and performance management through interviews, mentoring and coaching and completion of performance appraisals;
  • Coordinates staffing schedules based on collective agreements;
  • Monitors and addresses the orientation needs of and serves as a mentor to new team members;
  • Ensures occupational health and safety standards are met;
  • Financial Utilization and reporting-i.e., staffing hours, purchase orders, staff expenses;
  • Acts on behalf of the Director in their absence;
  • Development and monitoring the success of onboarding programs for clinical externs and Internationally educated nurses;
  • Infection Prevention and Control leadership with primary responsibility for development, implementation, evaluation, and education related to policies, procedures, and best practices that impact the prevention of infections;
  • Coordination of reporting on key performance indicators;
  • Cross organization leadership for outbreak management and supporting IPC practitioners to partner with teams in a collaborative approach;
  • Determines the orientation needs of staff and coordinates the orientation program in conjunction with the Education Services; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
