Specific Accountabilities

  • Install, construct, and operate all equipment associated with the Northwestel Cable headend and signal distribution network, including satellite and IP programming.
  • Perform regular maintenance, repair, performance testing, alignment, alterations, and adjustment on all headend and networking equipment associated with the signal distribution network and facilities in the delivery of Video, Voice and Data products and services.
  • Monitor video and audio quality of services delivered on the HFC and Data networks.
  • Maintain performance specifications, and with minimal supervision, initiate and complete comprehensive testing.
  • Maintain headend inventory of spare equipment and prepare shipping logs, as needed.
  • Maintain a safe and secure headend facility, adhering to company security policies and Health and Safety standards.
  • Maintain required logs, records, and other documentation.
  • Provide guidance and assist service technicians and other staff with technical problems.
  • Assist with operational workflow, training, and quality assurance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • High school diploma or the equivalent, plus 2+ years technical or electronics school (diploma or certification) or the recognized equivalent in work experience and self-study.
  • Cable or telecommunications technical experience with at least 3 years as a Service Technician or equivalent.
  • Strong communications skills and ability to work both in a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to make cable connections in tight spaces by bending, reaching, and twisting.
  • Ability to operate appropriate computers, software, switches, routers, and test equipment associated with position.
  • Ability to operate systems using Command Line Interface and familiar with both Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Ability to read general system layouts/plans from drawings and system maps.
  • Ability to use hand tools.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and electronics.
  • Knowledge of Broadband communications systems, IP Networking, digital signal processing, and RF transmission.
  • Knowledge of redesign and measuring voltage wiring, splicing skills (including fibre optic cables), bench sweep, and spectrum analyzer.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.
