Job Overview
We are hiring a dedicated Snowflake DBA with 3-5 years of experience to manage and optimize our Snowflake data platform on Azure. In this role, you will handle day-to-day administration, performance tuning, and security while contributing to architectural designs aligned with the Medallion Architecture framework. You will ensure high availability, cost efficiency, and seamless integration with Azure services to support enterprise data workloads. The ideal candidate is a proactive administrator with a blend of technical expertise and architectural insight, eager to enhance data reliability in a cloud-native environment. This mid-level position offers growth opportunities in a collaborative Azure-based data team.
Key Responsibilities
Administer Snowflake environments on Azure, including user management, role-based access control (RBAC), resource monitoring, and cost optimization using tools like Snowsight and Azure Cost Management. Architect and implement data pipelines following the Medallion Architecture (Bronze for raw data, Silver for refined data, Gold for curated analytics) to ensure scalable, layered data processing. Monitor and tune Snowflake performance, including warehouse sizing, query optimization, clustering, and caching strategies to handle high-volume workloads efficiently. Manage data security and compliance, implementing features like encryption, masking, row-level security, and integration with Azure AD for authentication and Azure Sentinel for threat detection. Oversee data ingestion, replication, and sharing using Snowflake features such as Snowpipe, Streams, and Secure Data Sharing, with Azure integrations like Data Factory and Synapse. Perform regular maintenance tasks, including backups (Time Travel/Fail-safe), disaster recovery planning, and troubleshooting incidents to maintain 99.9% uptime. Collaborate with data engineers, architects, and Azure teams to design secure, cost-effective solutions and conduct audits for data governance adherence. Document configurations, procedures, and architectural decisions; provide training and support to end-users on Snowflake best practices.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 3-5 years of experience in database administration, with at least 2 years focused on Snowflake administration in cloud environments. Hands-on experience architecting Snowflake solutions using Medallion Architecture for organized data layering and transformation. Proficiency in Snowflake administration tools and features: accounts, warehouses, stages, pipes, streams, tasks, and security protocols. Strong knowledge of Azure services integrated with Snowflake, such as Azure AD, Data Lake Storage, Synapse Analytics, and monitoring via Azure Monitor. Expertise in SQL for query analysis, performance tuning, and scripting administrative tasks. Familiarity with data governance, compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, SOC 2), and cost management in multi-tenant cloud setups.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with ETL/ELT orchestration tools like dbt or Azure Data Factory in Medallion implementations. Background in other cloud databases (e.g., Azure SQL Database) or big data platforms (e.g., Databricks). Snowflake SnowPro Core or Advanced Administrator certification, and Azure AZ-104 or DP-203 certifications. Knowledge of automation scripting with Python or SnowSQL for routine DBA tasks.
