Our Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax team is a multidisciplinary team of engineers, accountants, and tax professionals with deep industry experience. Our teams work with businesses to help determine a company’s eligibility to recover SR&ED tax credits offered by both the federal and provincial government. Many businesses and technology companies’ conduct SR&ED activities to develop products or processes with a view to developing intellectual property, reducing costs, improving performance, or creating new markets. We support our clients in identifying which of these activities meet SR&ED eligibility criteria.

KPMG is currently seeking to add a Manager to the team with a solid engineering background that has a desire to be exposed to new state-of-the art innovations in a wide range of industries. In this role you will assist our clients in identifying eligible SR&ED activities and describe these activities in a technical report. We will provide you with specialized training on Canada's SR&ED Tax Incentive Program which encourages businesses operating in Canada to develop new products or processes or improve existing ones in the field of science or technology.

What you will do:

  • Be exposed to new and exciting technologies and state-of-the-art innovations in a range of industries with a focus on mechanical/ chemical engineering
  • Working with Senior Managers, you will participate in and support client technical interviews and examine operations to identify SR&ED eligible projects/activities
  • Assist in the preparation and review of SR&ED claims submissions
  • Project Management: Plan, organize and execute multiple engagements on time and within budget
  • Client Management: Successfully develop and manage client relationships

What you bring to the role:

  • A university degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience as a SR&ED practitioner is preferred
  • Experience in other R&D related government tax incentive programs is an asset
  • Ability to conduct conversations to understand root causes for technical/scientific issues and understand key development concepts in R&D scope
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Keen interest in staying up-to-date with cutting edge technologies and trends
  • Analytical thinker who can draw inferences and make unexpected connections
  • Highly driven, autonomous, resilient and team player with a strong work ethic

KPMG BC Region Pay Range Information

The expected base salary range for this position is $85,000 to $128,500 and may be eligible for bonus awards. The determination of an applicant’s base salary within this range is based on the individual’s location, skills & competencies, and unique qualifications. In addition, KPMG offers a comprehensive and competitive Total Rewards program.
