Machinery Engineer
About the role
NSB Omega is searching for a Machinery Engineer for our MAJOR Oil & Gas Client in Calgary, AB.
Assignment Description Key Responsibilities
- Provide engineering support for rotating and mechanical equipment, including compressors, pumps, turbines, engines, gearboxes, and associated auxiliaries
- Lead or support equipment selection, specification, design reviews, and technical evaluations
- Troubleshoot machinery performance and reliability issues; perform root cause failure analysis (RCFA)
- Support commissioning, start-up, shutdown, and field activities as required
- Develop and review maintenance strategies, operating procedures, and technical documentation
- Interface with vendors, EPCs, and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with project and operational requirements
- Ensure adherence to applicable codes, standards, and best practices (API, ASME, ISO, CSA, etc.)
- Provide technical input for capital projects, modifications, and brownfield work
- Support asset integrity, reliability, and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Alberta or eligibility to obtain
- 5+ years of machinery engineering experience within the oil & gas industry
- Strong knowledge of rotating equipment design, operation, and maintenance
- Familiarity with API standards (e.g., API 610, 617, 618, 670)
- Experience working with vendors and reviewing technical bids and drawings
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
- Experience in upstream, midstream, or LNG facilities is considered an asset
